My car is a 2018 jeep cherokee latitude . Can I mount this controller up and down with the display pointing straight up?

In order to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 on your 2018 Jeep Cherokee you will also want to use the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # 3014-P. This adapter is a direct plug and play option that will allow you to install the Primus IQ on your Jeep without having to cut or splice any wires. The adapter will plug into the the back of your brake controller and into a pigtail harness under your drivers side kick panel.

If do not have a trailer connector at the rear of your Jeep then you will want to use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118605 and the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector part # 30717. I have attached an installation video of the 4-way installed on a similar 2017 Jeep Cherokee for you as well.

According to the installation instructions which I have attached for you, the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller will need to be mounted in-line with the direction of the trailer and on a 0-90 degree angle. Although possible, I would not mount the controller straight up and down as this would likely impede proper functioning. For best usage, I would mount the controller at about a 45 degree angle like shown in the attached photo.
