The Demco Recon is rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit, giving you solid muscle for towing heavy fifth-wheel trailers with confidence. The sturdy steel construction and rust-resistant black powder coat finish hold up through miles of towing, while the reinforced 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar adds serious strength to the connection. It’s a setup that feels tight and secure every time you pull out onto the highway.

The single-piece wraparound jaw clamps completely around the king pin to give you 360 degrees of contact. That full wrap design minimizes rattle and chucking compared to two-piece jaws, so your ride stays smooth and steady. The integrated locking bar automatically engages when the jaw closes, adding a layer of protection against accidental uncoupling. Each trip feels secure from the first click to the final park.

A double-pivot hitch head makes hook-up easy and helps keep towing smooth across uneven roads. The head pivots front to back and side to side, automatically aligning when it meets the pin box. Built-in polyurethane dampeners cushion movement and absorb road shock, cutting down on noise and jarring so you can focus on the drive instead of every bump.

When it’s time to use your bed for hauling, this hitch separates quickly into two pieces for easy removal. Drop the head into place on its base, pin it at one of three height settings—15-1/2", 17-1/4", or 18"—and tighten it down to eliminate any movement or rattle. Removing it is just as simple, leaving your bed completely clear when you’re not towing.
The included underbed installation kit is actually Curt’s Double Lock gooseneck hitch system, giving you options beyond fifth-wheel towing. It uses a 2-5/16" ball rated for 30,000 lbs GTW and 7,500 lbs tongue weight. When you’re done towing your fifth wheel, pop out the Recon hitch and drop in the chrome ball for gooseneck duty—or flip the ball over for a clean bed ready for gear or cargo.
This fifth-wheel hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter. This has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this part will replace just the base assembly that's on the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter, which is part number DM8550045. Now that adapter, we do sell separately on our website. Now this is just for the base assembly.
It does not include the hitch head. The hitch head bolts to this center post here. The hitch head, we do sell separately. It's part number DM6169. The center post right here that the hitch head attaches to, has three different height settings to fit your application.
And the hitch height is critical 'cause when you go to tow your fifth wheel, you do wanna make sure you're towing as level as possible. And hitch height is always measured from the top of the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. And now the hitch height settings on this center post, there's three holes in it. So it gives you a selection of three different hitch height settings. Either a 15-and-a-half inch, 17-and-a-quarter-inch or 18-inch hitch height setting.
You just pick the one that works best for your application. Now, this base also, when you do install this over the gooseneck ball, it does give you a three-inch offset for extra clearance of your fifth wheel. It is is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice rust-resistant black powder coat finish on it. And it is a quick, simple installation.
Basically, this just installs over the gooseneck ball and it's held in place with the pin and clip. And also these two set screws right up front here. This part is made in the USA and again, the gross towing weight capacity on this base assembly is 21,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter..

Excellent hitch to date and still very happy. Have pulled my fifth wheel around the country with zero issues. I see people with $1800 hitches that have minor slop and problems hooking up at minor funny angles. This hitch is strong, simple, and very secure. No slop.

I have a solution to your issue. The bag with the bolt and nut for the hitch handle should have came with a small round dampener that stops the hitch head from flopping back and forth in the truck. The urethane compresses under a load so it does not restrict the fore and aft movement when coupled. Before you attach the hitch head to the saddle assembly the dampener will need to be installed. Simply press it into the hole that is punched into the bottom side of the hitch as shown in Figure A of the instructions: https:cdn.demco-products.comdocumentsHJ26169.pdf

Pretty good. Still rotating a little. I tightened the main bolt to the ball more than the 30lbs. It’s not rotating as much as it has been. Still haven’t figured out if or where I would drill a hole for a bolt to go in. I’m not really wanting to do that yet.
