Demco 5th Wheel Hitch - DM87QJ

  • 20000 lbs GTW
  • Aftermarket Below Bed Rails
  • Demco
  • Fixed Fifth Wheel
  • Premium - Single-Hook Jaw
  • Double Pivot

You tow a 5th wheel but still use your truck bed for lumber or pallets. This system gives you a complete 5th wheel hitch with a B&W underbed mounting kit, then breaks into three pieces when you're not towing so it takes up less space.

Highlights

  • Break It Down for Removal: Three-piece design separates into smaller sections when not in use.
  • Keep Full Bed Access When Not Towing: Underbed install leaves the truck bed open once the hitch is out.
  • Store It in the Bed Instead of the Garage: Included MOLLE panel lets you secure hitch components at the front of the bed.
  • Keep the Connection Tight at the Kingpin: Wraparound jaw and locking bar fully surround the kingpin.
  • Reduce Binding at the Hitch: Head pivots front-to-back and side-to-side to stay aligned through turns and uneven ground.
  • Tow More Than Just a 5th Wheel: B&W Turnoverball system doubles as a heavy-duty gooseneck hitch.

Features to know about

Three Pieces Instead of One Full Hitch

This Demco Recon Stealth separates into three sections when you need to remove it from the truck bed. That changes the job from pulling one large hitch to lifting smaller sections one at a time. The base also folds down when the hitch is not assembled, so it does not leave the same upright profile in the bed. The included MOLLE panel mounts at the front of the bed so you can strap the components in place instead of finding space for them in your garage.

B&W Turnoverball Underbed System Forms the Foundation

The included B&W underbed kit installs beneath your truck bed and gives you a solid mounting point for the Recon hitch without adding above-bed rails. This is the Turnoverball system, one of the most widely used gooseneck setups, and it doubles as a complete gooseneck hitch when the fifth wheel is removed. A single hole in the bed serves as the connection point, keeping the surface clear when you're not towing.

Full Bed Access Without Giving Up Capability

Once the fifth wheel hitch is removed, the bed is open for hauling materials or equipment. The gooseneck ball can be flipped upside down and stored in the hitch, leaving a flat surface for cargo. Safety chain loops sit flush in the bed, so nothing sticks up or gets in the way when you're using the truck for other jobs.

Wraparound Jaw Gives You a Tight 5th Wheel Connection

The hitch head uses a wraparound jaw and locking bar that fully enclose the kingpin. That tighter fit cuts down on the movement you can get from looser coupler styles at the hitch. The head pivots front-to-back and side-to-side, which helps it stay aligned as the truck and trailer move through turns, dips, and uneven ground.

This hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes, since it is designed for a standard fixed kingpin connection.

Height Adjustment Helps You Level the Trailer

The upright uses stacked pin holes so the hitch head can be set at different heights. That lets you match the trailer to the truck more closely instead of towing nose high or nose low. The hitch connects directly to the underbed mounting point, so the adjustment happens at the hitch without changing the setup underneath.

Note: Not compatible with rotating pin boxes.

  • Does 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD Have Same Underbed Puck System Spacing
Hey Keith, did you for sure buy a 2018 Chevy to replace your 2018 2500? There was a puck design change but it happened later so the two trucks should have the same OEM puck kit which would then make me think the new truck actually has an aftermarket underbed rail kit like a Reese which looks very similar but is spaced differently. If it's a Reese Elite rail kit the pucks would be spaced 30 inches left to right and 13 inches front to back. Let me know what the spacing is on your pucks and...

  • What 5TH Wheel Hitches Will Fit B&W Turnover Gooseneck Hitch # BW83FR?
The Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BW83FR is only capable of using the B&W Companion Fixed # BWRVK3500 or Sliding # BWRVK3400 hitch. You can use an Adapter # DM6140 to work with other 5th wheel hitches which fit onto standard ISR rails. Since you have the in bed prep/puck system on your 2023 Ford F-250 short bed truck I recommend using the Companion # BWRVK3370 since you cannot install the B&W under bed kit above.

  • Is There a 5th Wheel Hitch & Underbed Rails For 2023 Ford F-350 Long Bed
Hi Joe, While there is an option for an underbed kit and a 5th wheel hitch for your 2023 Ford F-350 long bed, there isn't a prep package-style that fits your truck. So for a long bed, what you would need is the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W and Custom Underbed Installation Kit # BW83FR. The # BW83FR also doubles as a gooseneck if you ever want to pull a gooseneck trailer or use something like a Reese Goose Box, and the Companion is simply the best 5th wheel hitch...

  • Recommended B&W Gooseneck Hitch for a 2024 Ford F-350
I sure can Brian! The Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches item # BW83FR is exactly what you'll need for your 2024 Ford F-350. It is compatible with both the 6-3/4' and 8' bed lengths. This kit comes with custom fit brackets and all necessary installation hardware. Your B&W Companion Hitch item # BWRVK3500 is going to drop right down into the square gooseneck receiver of the B&W item # BW83FR. What kind of 5th wheel trailer do you have and how long...

  • Recommended B&W Turnover Ball System for a 2023 Ford F-350 w/out the Prep Package
The Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches item # BW83FR and item # BW73FR are identical kits that both fit the 2023 Ford F-350 with either the 6-3/4' or 8' bed lengths. It looks like item # BW83FR was the original inventory number but they both have the same components, installation method, and capacities. I have previously checked with B&W on this Turnoverball system, since you do not have the prep package you will want the B&W Turnoverball Underbed...

  • Recommended In Bed 7-Way Connector for a 2023 Ford F-350
To add an in bed 7-way connector to your F-350 you will want the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness item # C57010. I really like this harness because it puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. This makes hooking up to your gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer easier and more convenient. What sets this wiring harness apart from the others is that this kit includes rubber well nuts that separate the included stainless steel bolts...

  • Best Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Hitch Solution for 2024 Ford F-350 without OEM Pucks
Hey Miguel, this is a great question but I think your first though of going with the B and W setup is the best. So for that you'd want the part # BWRVK3500 for the fifth wheel hitch and then for the rail kit that also doubles as a gooseneck hitch you'd want the part # BW83FR which also doubles as a gooseneck hitch. This gives you exactly what you are looking for. Ability to tow a fifth wheel hitch, a gooseneck hitch, and then when not needed a totally clean truck bed. The Companion hitches...

  • Is A Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch Required When Towing With A 6' Bed
Typically with any bed under 8' in length we recommend using either a slider hitch or fixed hitch and rotating pin box to prevent the nose of the trailer from coming into contact with the cab of the truck when making tight turns. There are some trailers that have tapered noses that allow for more turning clearance, but it's always best to play it safe. You can see how much turning clearance you have by taping a plumb bob to the outermost corner of the trailer's nose and measuring from...

  • Can I Add a Aftermarket Puck System to a 2023 Ford F-250?
I am sorry but there is no way to add a puck system to a 2023 Ford F-250 using aftermarket parts. The puck systems are dealer options only. The closet thing you can do would be to add the B&W Turnoverball system item # BW83FR to your F-250. The Turnoverball system installs below your truck bed using custom brackets. It provides a square receiver capable of mounting a Fixed Companion 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3500 or a Sliding Companion 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3400-5W. One part of...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Hitch for a 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Hey Dan, so we do have the Andersen Ultimate # AM3200 but it's mounts to a set of 5th wheel rails # RP65VR to provide you with a Gooseneck attachment. I'm not entirely sure if that's what you're looking for but that's what it is. There is also the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BW83FR which is a Gooseneck hitch that can be also used with the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W 5th wheel hitch. Both of these will work with a 6 3/4' bed. Also,...

It has a custom installation that uses the existing holes in your vehicle's frame so no welding or drilling is required. This is a gooseneck hitch as well as a base which will allow you to install the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W.

The Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP87FR has not yet been confirmed to fit the 2023 model year of the F-350. You could try reaching out to Ford to see if there are any differences compared to the 2022 models, which the # RP87FR is confirmed to fit, to see if it would fit your 2023. • Does Demco Recon Stealth Gooseneck To 5th Wheel Hitch Adapter Provide Extra Height?
Good morning Stephanie, the Demco Recon Stealth adapters do give you some built-in height adjustment, and typically it offers more height than some other fifth wheel hitthes. The Demco Recon Stealth models like the universal # DM63UV and the vehicle specific kits like # DM54QJ, # DM82SJ, and # DM22SJ have three height settings: 16-3/4" 18" 19-1/4" That gives you some room to fine-tune the hitch height and help level your trailer instead of being locked into one position. They’re also...

  • Is New Demco Recon Stealth Adapter Lighter Than A Standard 5th Wheel Hitch? Is It A One Man Job?
Hey Greg, the Demco Recon Stealth is definitely more manageable than a traditional one-piece 5th wheel hitch. It is a one person job for sure. Whether you’re looking at # DM63UV or one of the truck-specific kits like # DM54QJ (Ford), # DM82SJ (Chevy), or # DM22SJ (RAM), the hitch breaks down into three separate pieces instead of coming out as one big assembly. That makes it much easier for one person to handle piece by piece. If you have one of the vehicles that the kits fit, I'd grab...

  • Where Do You Store Demco Recon Gooseneck To 5th Wheel Adapter When Not In Use?
Hey Tom, if you go with the hitch-only version # DM63UV, most people either store the pieces in the bed or take them out and keep them in the garage. The nice thing is that the Recon Stealth breaks down into three smaller sections, and the base folds down, so it’s much easier to store than a full-size hitch. But without the MOLLE panel kits, you won’t have that dedicated front-of-bed mounting spot. I recommend looking into the complete setup with MOLLE storage kit for front of bed storage: -...

  • Will Demco Recon Stealth Hitch Adapter Work In Short Bed Truck? 5th Wheel RV With Tapered Nose
Hey Ashley, if your trailer has a modern tapered front cap, there’s a good chance this setup will work - but it’s still worth double-checking your clearance. The Demco Recon Stealth models like # DM63UV (universal) , # DM54QJ (Ford), # DM82SJ (Chevy/GMC), and # DM22SJ (RAM) are all fixed hitches (no slider), so in a short bed truck, everything comes down to cab-to-trailer clearance when turning. You can check it using this formula: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the center...

  • Is Demco Recon Stealth Adapter Better Than Gooseneck Trailer Adapters On Trailer Side?
Hey Derek, that’s a smart question! Most don't think about the different options. Both have their purpose, so there isn't really an easy answer. With the Demco Recon Stealth hitch like # DM63UV, or the MOLLE panel kits for specific vehicle fits # DM54QJ, # DM82SJ, and # DM22SJ, you’re getting a true 5th wheel hitch connection at the kingpin, just mounted to your gooseneck ball. That’s different from a trailer-mounted gooseneck adapter, which changes the connection on the trailer side,...

  • Is The New Demco Recon Stealth Easier To Remove Than Standard 5th wheel Hitch?
Hey Luis, congrats on the brand-new truck. This one’s much more manageable than a traditional 5th wheel hitch / adapter. It breaks down into three pieces, so you’re not lifting one big unit, and the base folds down so it’s not sticking up in the bed when it’s not assembled. The old Recons are still nice, but these are a huge improvement when it comes to saving space in the truck bed. If you go with one of the vehicle-specific kits, you also get a MOLLE panel to store everything at the...

  • How To Pull New 5th Wheel Camper With 2024 RAM 2500 With Gooseneck Hitch
Hey Kyle! Yes, thats exactly what the Recon Stealth was made for. With your factory prep package, you already have the 2-5/16" gooseneck ball, and that’s all the Demco Recon Stealth needs. The # DM22SJ drops right onto that ball and gives you a full 5th wheel hitch at the kingpin - no rails, no puck-mounted hitch, no extra hardware. So instead of installing a bulky hitch system, you’re using what’s already in your truck. It’s also a lot easier to live with day-to-day since it breaks...
