If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.
This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the king pin, which connects to the fifth-wheel hitch in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the king pin will move accordingly.
Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the king pin moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the pin's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box for the Fabex 665 and the M&M 665 pin boxes, and this has a 30,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this 5th wheel kingpin box is an upgrade to the existing Fabex 665 or M&M 665 pin box that's on your 5th wheel trailer. This 5th wheel pin box will replace the factory pin box on your trailer, and the kingpin right down here is what'll insert into your truck's 5th wheel hitch. Now, this one here uses a nice shock absorbing design, which ensures a nice, smooth, steady ride. The technology in this functions just like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from your trailer to the truck and vice versa.
Wanna pop an insert up there just to show you what we're looking at. So if you look at these sections right here where these bolts are, it's gonna have the technology I mentioned. Like a torsion axle, it has the outer tubes with the rubber cords around the inner bar, and this will help reduce any chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion, it'll also limit any bounce and jarring up-and-down motion. And what's nice about this system is there's no air bags that you have to maintain, and there's fewer moving parts to repair or replace them with some of your other shock absorbing solutions that are out there. Now, this pin box also offers a pin weight scale, which is built in to help you balance your trailer, that scale's located on this lower arm right here, and that'll let you know if the load needs to be adjusted before you tow.
The vertical load or pin weight that refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer will exert downward on the hitch in your truck bed, and too little hood vertical load can cause trailer sway, too much can cause poor performance. I did wanna zoom in and show you that scale I'm talking about, you can see it right here. That scale has a red on each end, at the very top up here, that is the maximum vertical load, and then the red at the very bottom is the minimum vertical load, the green that you could see as in the middle. Now, the red areas are the too high and too low areas, so you don't want the white indicator line that's over here to be in those areas, you want it to be in the green area. The maximum red right up here, that indicates the maximum vertical load of 4,500 pounds, the red at the bottom is the minimum red, and that indicates no vertical load.
So you do wanna be in the green, which is a pin weight capacity range of 2,000 pounds to 4,500 pounds, and a vertical load of at least 2,000 pounds is recommended for this built-in shock absorption to function effectively. So basically again, that white indicator line there, when you get this all hooked up and loaded down, you want that line to be indicating in the green area. Now, this is a nice heavy duty steel construction, has a nice powder coat finish to resist wear and corrosion. It is a simple bolt on installation, the mounting holes on this will line up to the factory holes and it mounts with these included 5/8 inch diameter bolts and washers to install. This is made in the USA.
Again, the towing capacity on this is 30,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on this Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box for the Fabex 665 and the M&M 665 pin boxes..
