This shock-absorbing pin box works with your gooseneck hitch to give a smooth ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. Auto-latch allows for easy hookup. 3.5K pin weight.

Features:

  • 5th-Wheel-to-gooseneck adapter box lets you tow your 5th-wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch
    • 5th-Wheel pin box replaces the factory pin box on your trailer
    • Coupler attaches to your truck's gooseneck hitch ball
  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa
      • Reduces chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion
      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Self-latching lever automatically engages when hitch ball is in socket
  • SnapLatch pull rod allows you to easily uncouple from outside of your truck bed
    • Rod hooks onto lever - just pull on it to disengage the latch
  • Cross-shaped holes provide attachment points for safety chains (GY49GR - sold separately)
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Powder coat finish resists wear and corrosion
  • Simple, bolt-on installation
    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert Turning Point 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 21,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 1,500 lbs - 3,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • Average break-in period for hitch = 1,000 miles.
  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • To calculate correct pin weight for Gen-Y hitches, use this formula: GVWR x 0.22
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert Turning Point pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Calculated Pin Weight Executive Pin Weight Capacity Required
1,600-2,599 lbs 3,500 lbs
2,600-3,599 lbs 4,500 lbs
3,600-4,599 lbs 5,500 lbs
4,600-5,599 lbs 6,500 lbs
5,600-6,599 lbs 7,500 lbs

Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion with cable

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Easy to Couple and Uncouple

auto latch and cable

The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.

Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the latch back with the included SnapLatch pull rod to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.

  • Will I Have Enough Clearance Between Camper And Bed Rails When Using Gen-Y Goosebox GY48GR
Hello Nelson. I have included a dimensional drawing of the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR below for your reference. Your best bet will be to compare this to the bed of your truck and see how everything lines up.

  • Can Anything Be Done To Reduce Chucking With Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Pin Box GY48GR?
Hello Darryl, thanks for reaching out. You can apply grease to the gooseneck ball, but you would not want to lubricate the pivot points on the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR. Sadly, there is not much that can be done to reduce chucking. I have heard of this being a problem if the pin box is not sized correctly for the trailer. What is the GVWR of your camper?

  • How Much Clearance Is Lost When Switching To A Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box
Hey Bill, The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR has an 18.08" measurement from the center of the coupler to the center of the first bolt holes. When switching to a gooseneck pin box from the Lippert Turning Point you'd be losing the extra 22" of clearance it provides by moving the pivot point back to the trailer nose. You can use an offset ball to gain a bit more clearance though. If you can tell me the brand of your gooseneck hitch I can pick out some...

  • Replacement Pin Box Option For A Lippert Turning Point Rotating Pin Box
The Lippert Turning Point has a specific bolt pattern that only has one replacement so far, the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR. This is a gooseneck adapter though so you'd have to switch out the hitch for a gooseneck ball for this to work. The torsion head will help reduce road shock and chucking transferred to your truck so it is worth considering, but you'll also be moving your pivot point back to the truck so you could run into clearance issues if...

  • Correct Pin Box to Replace a Turning Point
There is only one option to replace a Lippert, which is now Curt, Turning Point. You will want the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY48GR. As far as make and model goes. 5th wheel trailer pin boxes are not model specific. The manufacturer's can install different pin boxes with different patterns for the same make and model years. This can be due to parts availability or customer specifications. With the exception of the Turning Point, the only way to confirm...

  • Replacement Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box for Lippert Turning Point
For your application you'll need the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR which is designed to fit as a replacement for the unique bolt pattern of the Lippert Turning Point pin box. Reese currently (April 2022) doesn't have a Goosebox option that fits in place of the Turning Point. Please note that the loaded pin weight of your Grand Design 295RL needs to be within the 1,500 lb - 3,000 lb range for this pin box to work properly.

  • Can the Curt Helux Pin Box be Used to Replace Turning Point Pin Box?
Hey Bryan, good to hear from you again! The Curt Helux Shock-Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Boxes are currently only designed to replace the Rhino pin box. We have some alternatives, but they are the ones that connect to a gooseneck hitch ball like what we see with the Gen-Y # GY48GR and Shocker Hitch # SHK47YR. What is your reason for wanting to replace the Turning Point? I might be able to find an alternative solution for you.

  • Solution for Replacing Curt Turning Point on 2024 Grand Design Reflection 295RL
Hey Scott! The Turning Point bolt pattern is unique so the Helux isn't an option. In fact, none of the cushioned pin boxes with a standard king pin are able to replace the Turning Point. Does your daughter have a long bed? If so, she could switch to a gooseneck setup using the Gen-Y # GY48GR or the Shocker Hitch # SHK69YR. If it is a short bed clearance may be an issue. It looks like that Reflection already has the CRE3000 equalizers on it so that isn't an upgrade that can help. Another...

Hey Matt, congrats on the new 5th wheel trailer. Do you know what pin box is on the Brinkley Z3100 you're buying? There's quite a few different bolt patterns and there's no database that shows me what pin box is on a trailer. The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY48GR you were looking at will only replace a Turning Point pin box. The sticker should say date of manufacture and have some form of RPO, LCI, or serial number on it. • Comparing the Shocker Hitch and Gen-Y 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Boxes
Hey Donald, thanks for reaching out! The main difference between the Shocker Hitch # SHK47YR and Gen-Y # GY48GR 5th wheel to gooseneck pin boxes is that the Shocker Hitch uses an air bag while the Gen-Y uses rubber torsion arms to provide a smoother towing experience. I personally like the idea of an air bag in this instance because you can adjust the amount of pressure as opposed to the torsion arms that are at a set amount of pressure. The only thing the torsion arms have over the air...

The Shocker has a bit higher weight rating at 24,000 lbs where the Gen-Y has a 21,000 lb capacity. The Shocker also has a higher pin weight rating at 6,000 lbs, where the Gen-Y has a 3,500 lb capacity. Hey Matt, thanks for reaching out! Yes, both the Shocker Hitch # SHK47YR and Gen-Y # GY48GR 5th wheel to gooseneck pin boxes are great quality, and the real difference is just the air bag vs rubber torsion arms. The air bag system is one that I like a little better just because it is more customizable, but I do understand the "no maintenance" appeal of the Gen-Y setup as well.
