Can Anything Be Done To Reduce Chucking With Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Pin Box GY48GR?

Updated 09/19/2025 | Published 09/12/2025

Question:

We have this hitch on our Brinkley 5th wheel. We have over 6000 miles towing with it and there is still lots of chucking movement. My question is can one lubricate the pivot points? Would it help the chucking? Thanks Daryl Sweeten

Hello Darryl, thanks for reaching out. You can apply grease to the gooseneck ball, but you would not want to lubricate the pivot points on the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR.

Sadly, there is not much that can be done to reduce chucking. I have heard of this being a problem if the pin box is not sized correctly for the trailer.

What is the GVWR of your camper?

Thanks Jesse for answering my question. Specs are… Brinkley G3250 GVWR is 22,000 lbs 30K Gen Y Executive Gooseneck hitch We ordered our rig and Brinkley installed this at the factory. Our tow vehicle is a 2024 GMC 6.6 Duramax long-bed dally. It’s capable of pulling 35K gooseneck trailer.

@DarylS Ok it sounds like you do have the correct Gen-Y pin box based on your GVWR so I do not think the pin box being undersized is the problem. Typically Brinkley is pretty good about that kind of stuff too. I wish I had better news for you but there really isn't much that can be done with the chucking at the hitch. Sometimes the suspension can cause chucking, but typically Brinkley puts solid suspension on their units but that could be something to look into that could potentially help with chucking. Is the camper level when you tow? Being out of level can make chucking worse.

That was the next thing i was going to ask. I’m looking to put air bags on the truck. I had them on my previous vehicle and it helped a lot. Do you recommend the Pacbrake system? I had the Airlift system before. Also, I still have the Airlift compressor. Will it work with the Pacbrake bags? Thanks for your help!

@Daryl So The PacBrake kits are fine, but I would lean towards the Air Lift. Reason being I have seen a few of these PacBrake kits here in our shop and I am not a fan of their brackets. The fits can be a bit "crude" and some of the welds on their brackets left much to be desired. Also, PacBrake is a fairly new brand for us, whereas the Air Lift are much more established, so it is something I am confident in from experience. That said, the Air Lift # AL57541 is what I recommend. These are the 7,500 lb bags. This will also work with your Air Lift compressor. To answer your question, it would be fine to use an Air Lift compressor with a PacBrake air bag kit. All the fitting sizes are the same.
