Question:

How does this new Shocker Hitch compare to the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for Lippert Turning Point GY48GR? Its a bit less expensive and looks like itll work for me. Just trying to find a way to upgrade the ride on my new 5th wheel. thanks

Hey Donald, thanks for reaching out!

The main difference between the Shocker Hitch # SHK47YR and Gen-Y # GY48GR 5th wheel to gooseneck pin boxes is that the Shocker Hitch uses an air bag while the Gen-Y uses rubber torsion arms to provide a smoother towing experience.

I personally like the idea of an air bag in this instance because you can adjust the amount of pressure as opposed to the torsion arms that are at a set amount of pressure. The only thing the torsion arms have over the air bag is essentially zero maintenance, but I think it's worth the tradeoff.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the Gen-Y has a bit of an awkward way to determine the correct pin box weight rating for your 5th wheel. If you do decide to go with the Gen-Y, please let me know your GVWR (in the comment section below) and I'll be happy to verify whether or not this will work for you!

Hey Donald, how did things turn out with the Shocker Hitch for your 5th wheel? Did the adjustable air bag setup give you the smoother ride you were hoping for? Your update could make it easier for others comparing these two pin boxes.
