Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/01/2025

Question:

How does this new Shocker Hitch compare to the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for Lippert Turning Point GY48GR? Its a bit less expensive and looks like itll work for me. Just trying to find a way to upgrade the ride on my new 5th wheel. thanks

Hey Don, the Shocker # SHK47YR and the Gen-Y # GY48GR are pretty close, but there are some differences. The Shocker hitch has a 3" offset coupler whereas the Gen-Y does not. The Shocker has a bit higher weight rating at 24,000 lbs where the Gen-Y has a 21,000 lb capacity. The Shocker also has a higher pin weight rating at 6,000 lbs, where the Gen-Y has a 3,500 lb capacity.

Both of these pin boxes will ultimately work fine to replace a Lippert Turning Point Pin Box and will be a great upgrade, it's just going to boil down to what you need and your budget. If the offset and the beefed up weight ratings make the difference then you should go for the Shocker, if not, the Gen-Y will do fine.

If there is anything else I can help you with, feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Don, how did things turn out with the Shocker hitch for your 5th wheel upgrade? Did the extra offset and higher weight ratings make a noticeable difference in your ride? Your update could make it easier for others comparing these two options.
