Features to know about

Automatic Turning Clearance Without the Hassle: 14" of Fore/Aft Travel

This hitch takes care of tight turns for you. The built-in automatic slider gives you 14" of travel front to back, so the trailer moves away from the cab when you turn and returns to center when you straighten out. The rack-and-pinion gear system handles the sliding motion smoothly and consistently, eliminating the need to pull a release lever or hop in and out of the truck during every backing maneuver.

Solid, Quiet Connection at the King Pin: Wraparound Single-Piece Jaw with 3/4" Locking Bar

The wraparound, single-hook jaw design grips the king pin with full 360-degree contact for a tight, secure hold. A 3/4" solid steel locking bar reinforces that connection and automatically locks when the jaw closes. This setup minimizes rattle and chucking while giving you a steady, quiet ride on rougher stretches of road.

Smooth Ride and Easy Hookups: Double-Pivot Head with Polyurethane Dampeners

The double-pivot head moves front to back and side to side, letting it align naturally as you back into the pin box. Three polyurethane dampeners absorb road shock and cut down on noise, so towing feels steady instead of jerky. The head pivots into place automatically when you couple up, making hookups smoother every time.

Straightforward Setup and Removal: Custom Underbed Mounting Kit Included

The hitch comes pre-assembled and installs using the included underbed mounting kit. Bolt on the side plates, set your chosen height—15-1/2", 16-3/4", or 18-1/4"—and lock it into the receivers with the built-in handles and safety pins. When you’re not towing, unlock the same handles and lift it out to clear your bed completely.

Built for Heavy Loads and Confident Towing: 21,000 lbs GTW and 5,250 lbs Vertical Load Limit

With a gross towing weight rating of 21,000 lbs and a vertical load limit of 5,250 lbs, this heavy-duty steel hitch is ready for serious fifth-wheel trailers. The rust-resistant black powder coat adds protection against wear, keeping it dependable trip after trip.

Video Transcript for Feature Review Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram

Today we're going to take a look at the replacement side plates for the Demco Hijacker Autoslide fifth wheel trailer hitches, and this is for the underbed mount. Now this will replace the side plates that came standard with your Demco Hijacker Autoslide underbed fifth wheel trailer hitch. They are designed to bolt onto your hitch base so that you can attach your hitch to the custom underbed rails. This is designed to fit the 13,000 pound Hijacker, Part Number DM8550041. It also fits the 18,000 pound Hijacker, DM8550022, and the 21,000 pound Hijacker, DM8550037 models. This is a simple bolt-on installation to your hitch base. There are multiple rows of bolt holes on these side plates and on your hitch base, so depending how you line them out, it will let you adjust the hitch height.

The hitch height settings will go from either 15-1/2 inches to 16-3/4 and 18-1/4, so you have your choice of those three settings to get your trailer and tow vehicle as level as possible. These do have a rust-resistant black powder coat finish. They are an all-steel construction. It does include the instructions. It will include the mounting hardware, and it also includes two 1/4-inch spacers and two 3/8-inch spacers, and the spacers are used for adjusting your hitch mount with the bed pockets of your truck, and this part is made in the U.S.A. The way that these would open up is you just pull the clip, pull the pin out, and you can see each one of these will rotate out, and when you rotate those out, it will let you drop it into your underbed mount, and then once there, you just turn this back in to lock it, and then put your clip right through there just like that. This part is made in the U.S.A. That should do it for the review of the replacement side plates for Demco Hijacker Autoslide fifth wheel trailer hitches with the underbed mount..

It’s a pleasure doing business with your company and getting products in a timely manner.

by: Darin03/10/2022

Easy to install.

by: Dana06/10/2018

Hitch appears to be well-constructed and sturdy. I have not yet installed it. Some assembly is required, and the instructions aren't crystal clear. Better illustrations would be helpful. The videos online are the best source of installation information. Shipping materials lack protection. The powder coating was damaged in a few locations, as well as the instructions. I expect the hitch will operate exactly as designed a long as I protect the exposed parts from the inevitable elements. Rubber grommets would be a nice addition to the holes drilled in the truck bed.

by: David02/03/2022

Timely delivery. Product was very well packaged. All parts where clearly marked and instructions are well writen.

by: Rod12/14/2017

Just as described. Install was very easy.it had one base rail missing and called and talked to Sheila and she sent another one out. Had to set up our camper for a new job we are starting and needed the part in two days. She overnighted it and it was here on time.

Hitch sucks pain in the assembly to connect and disconnect.

by: Edward02/08/2022

Not to difficult to install. It will require 2 people to get the bolts torqued down. Handles a 14000 lb fifth wheel with ease

by: Kyle04/07/2019

Great design. Installation wasn't bad at all (plan on buying a carbide drill bit). Hole plugs just cheap plastic.

by: Nicholas05/26/2022

Only issue I ran into with my truck is that using the supplied measurements the back holes hit 1/4 on the bed rail. Still large enough to install the cross bars and hitch but something to be aware of. Truck was a 2006 F250 lariat 2wd with 6.5 box

by: Devin05/09/2020

Hitch looks great and functions great as well. Installation could’ve been smoother due to the installation instruction measurements being slightly off. Look at finding hole caps that are 3” instead of two and drilling the larger hole.

by: Steven10/19/2018

Installed the kit on my 08 ford f350 srw crewcab diesel. Fit fine. Well made. I just think the passengers side center bolt washer/extension piece was welded on the wrong side. I did a backyard fix , buy cutting a small filler piece out of steel so the frame plate wouldn't suck up to the frame and bend. Otherwise, good strong steel

by: Jason11/09/2018

Hitch works great. Had some issues using it when I first got it with putting the pin to lock down the handle but its worked much better lately. The hitch is heavy so I leave it in the back of the truck. Wish I could remove it so it doesn't get weathered.

by: Buddy R03/16/2018

worked perfect.no drilling! well worth buying this instead of the universal kit. and no rails in the bed!

by: Paul07/23/2019

Perfect fit. Planned ahead and had put on an Airlift 5000 with the auto level system. Adding this under bed mount for my hijacker auto slide on my 2015 F250 was simple and bolted right up with my airbags.

etrailer customer service was great in helping me make sure all the parts I ordered won’t play nice together.

by: John 06/13/2024

After a year, I still like my Demco autoslide. It works great. I have pulled my trailer quite a few times and have had no issues at all. I know quite a few people that pull 5th wheels and one actually went out and purchased a autoslide after watching mine work.

by: Brian05/28/2020

Instructions left alittle to interpretation when it came to hitch height in the bed of the truck. For a f350 super duty it is the medium set up. Save you some time and effort. Other then that it looks great and will be testing it out this weekend.

by: Tony C07/08/2017

The under bed mount for the demco auto slide was easy to install with easy instructions and works great

by: Charles12/26/2018

Great hitch for a short bed truck thanks etrailer

by: Lester03/20/2026

The fit was perfect. No holes to drill. Very happy with the product and service.

by: Richard H. 05/13/2016

This hitch has been used daily since i purchased it. I deliver fifth wheel travel trailers all over the country. This hitch has worked flawlessly from day one. This hitch is one of the only products that I've ever bought that is exactly what it was described to be. Im not one to do reviews, so the fact that im doing this one , in itself, says a lot about the quality of your product. The design and looks are much better than any other hitch ive seen. It just looks better in the truck bed than others do.

by: Glen M.08/23/2017

The under bed rail kit was easy to install. It provides easy removal and installation of the Demco Autoslide 5th wheel hitch. I could not be more pleased with the Demco products. I recommend getting the Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket
Item # DM6100. It makes removal and installation of the hitch a breeze.

by: Wil02/16/2019

Great product , easy to understand instructions, and a perfect fit. Customer service was also top notch had a problem with the first order missing rail fell out of the box in transit , no fault on etrailer, they sent me a new order before the old one was picked up! Fantastic customer service, I will definitely order from etrailer again!

Currently the only hitch I know of that uses rails different than the ISR Industry Standard Rails is the Demco Hijacker # DM8550032. This uses a different type of Underbed Rail and Installation Kit # DM8551000 that only has 4 holes that the hitch will drop into and lock onto. While it is possible to have another type of system that may have been discontinued you can send me pictures and measurements of what you do have and I can use that information to determine if there is anything else...

  • Parts Needed To Mount A Demco Recon Slider Hitch In The Bed Of A 2013 Ford F-350
Hey Larry, Your installer is correct about factory puck systems needing to be installed at the factory and would not be an option aftermarket. Luckily, Demco does have an underbed mounting system for your 2013 Ford F-350 with part # DM8551000. From there you can just swap out the side plates with part # DM44YV to switch from Ford's puck spacing to Demco's.

  • Can I Hitch Up My 5th Wheel Trailer at a 90 Degree Angle?
I would not recommend hooking up at a 90 degree angle for a couple of reasons. The trailer is not designed to take the force of the truck contacting the pin box at that angle. It would be very dangerous and unstable and could topple the trailer over if something were to hit it too hard. The front of the pin box has a curved lip to let the pin box ride up the hitch head. The side of the pin does not have that lip so everything would have to be extremely precise to make sure the flat...

Since your 2015 Ford F-250 has the short bed I strongly recommend using a 5th wheel installation kit and hitch and not using an adapter in a gooseneck hitch. The reason is that will the short bed truck you will want as much clearance as you can get when turning so that the trailer and truck do not collide. Adapters do not offer much additional clearance. Since you like the clean look of the gooseneck I have an excellent solution for you. I recommend the B&W system using installation kit...

Although some people can make it work, for any pickup with a bed less than 8' we always recommend going with a sliding 5th wheel hitch. This allows you to safely make sharp turns without your 2004 Forest River Cedar Creek making contact with the cab of your 2007 Ford F-350. You actually don't need a capture plate unless your pin box has a rotating turret, like a Sidewinder, or you have an automatic sliding 5th wheel hitch. Hey Clint, you are going to be installing the rail kit on the truck as well, correct? The Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM47YV by itself should take only about 30 mins to assemble and install. The Installation Rail Kit # DM8551000 will also need to be installed on the truck. For the Installation Rail Kit, we estimate about 4.5 hours for installation. So, for the hitch and rail kit you would be looking at around 5 hours. You will find our install video linked below.

For another under-bed system that will give you a higher capacity, I recommend taking a look at the Demco Hijacker # DM8550032 along with...

  • Under Bed 5th Wheel Installation Kit for 2008 Ford F-250 Short Bed with Air Bag Helper Springs
Because of where the air bag brackets mount on the frame of your 2008 Ford F-250 the only 5th wheel installation kit that would work is the universal kit # RP30035. This is an above the bed kit though. None of the under bed mounts will work because of the air bag brackets. If an under bed kit is a must then you can install a different air bag system, # F2550. Then you can use Demco under bed installation kit # DM8551000. This installation kit is compatible with Demco 5th wheel hitch #...

You can absolutely use the 18,000 lb Demco Hijacker Autoslide with the underbed rails on your 2002 Ford F-250 crew cab. What you need are the following: - Underbed Rail and Installation Kit for Demco Hijacker # DM8551000 - Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider - 18,000 lbs # DM8550022 As you mentioned, this is also compatible with the 21,000 lb version of the Hijacker # DM8550037. Additionally, if your '02 F-250 has the factory 7-way but you need a 5th wheel wiring...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Tonneau Cover Recommendation for 2017 Ram 3500 with Short Bed
For your 2017 Ram 3500 6-1/2 Foot Bed without Factory Rail Kit you'll need a slider hitch to allow you to make tight turns without cab interference. My favorite slider hitches are the ones that automatically slide as you make tight turns as that saves you the hassle of getting out and activating the slider every time it's needed. For that I would recommend the Demco Hijacker part # DM8550037 and the install rail kit part # DM8551006. This is an underbed rail kit too which means when you...

  • How to Tell if 2018 Ford F-250 Has Puck System to use Demco Hijacker Autoslide
While the best and most certain way to tell if your 2018 Ford F-250 has the puck system is to call your local Ford dealer with your VIN, it should be pretty easy to tell otherwise. If your bed looks like the accompanying photo - with four accessible holes (pucks) and a gooseneck in the middle - you have the puck system. You can also tell based on how your B&W Companion mounts. If you insert it into the pucks you have the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider for Ford Towing...

  • Under Bed 5th Wheel Installation Kit and Hitch for a 2017 Ford F-250 4x4 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed
There are below the bed 5th wheel installation kits for the 2017 Ford F-250; just not any Reese kits. The reason for that is Reese makes the factory under bed install kit for Ford so they tend not to release an aftermarket kit right away (or at all in some cases) which gives Ford exclusivity to it. If you do not already have a Reese Elite Series hitch then you can go with one of the other under bed kits and a hitch for it. I would need to know the bed length of your truck and if it is...

  • What is the Best Automatic Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2024 Ford F-250
Hey Earl, thanks for reaching out! There are two main competitors for the top spot of automatic 5th wheel hitches; the Demco Hijacker and the PullRite SuperGlide. While we only carry the Hijacker, I've looked into the SuperGlide enough that I can point out the main differences and why the Hijacker edges past the SuperGlide. Both options feature 14" of sliding clearance and can be installed in either OEM puck systems or industry standard rails (ISR), but there are the main differences...

  • Can the Demco Hijacker 5th Wheel Hitch Be Used W/ a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 W/ OEM Pucks
Hey Nick, so it looks like the only way you're going to be able to use your Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550037 with your 2014 Chevy Silverado is by using the custom underbed mounting kit # DM8551010. This is one of the few hitches that does not use ISR or an OEM puck system to install so you'd have to use their install kit.

The Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches #30068 was discontinued and is only compatible with commercial 34 inch frames, so it won't fit your 2019 Ford F-350. I reached out to Reese and they don't currently have a model compatible with the 2017-2019 model trucks. I do have an option for you that gives you the under bed rails and the automatic slider you are seeking, but you won't have the pucks like the factory option. I attached a photo...

I can understand why a hitch like the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550022 (18k) or # DM8550037 (21k) is so attractive; they provide a much better solution for towing a 5th wheel with a short bed truck when it comes to not having to get in and out of the truck each time you need to make a tight turn. With that said, they're not compatible with B&W Turnoverball Underbed kits like the # BWGNRK1116-5W since the hitches connect to the underbed kit in two very different ways. In order to use...

  • Using A Lippert Turning Point Pin Box With A Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch
The reason the Demco Capture Plates # DM6171 aren't working with your Lippert Turning Point pin box is because they were specifically designed for Trailair Rota-Flex pin boxes. Since you have a Demco Autoslide # DM8550037 you'll need to lockout your Turning Point pin box and allow rotation only at the hitch to king pin connection point. To do this you'll need to install two 5/8" - 11 x 2" in the lockout holes in the back of the pin box.

  • Should I Choose Demco, Reese, or PullRite Underbed Rail System for My 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500
For your application I recommend installing the Demco UMS Underbed Rail Kit # DR37FR on your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 and using the Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550037. The reason behind this is twofold; the Hijacker has more height adjustability and it comes with capture plates (as opposed to sold separately), and then Reese doesn't have an underbed rail system for your truck so you'll have to use the matching underbed rails for the 5th wheel hitch. Since the Demco Hijacker is better than...
