This hitch is built from sturdy steel and rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight with a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit. It’s purpose-built for towing large fifth-wheel campers and toy haulers with the solid, dependable feel that makes long trips more relaxed. The rust-resistant black powder coat finish keeps it looking sharp and protected from the elements, while the solid construction delivers a steady, reliable pull mile after mile.
The wraparound, single-piece jaw on this hitch gives full 360-degree contact around the king pin for a tight, secure fit that minimizes rattle and movement. A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar reinforces the connection and automatically locks into place when the jaw closes. Together they create a solid link between truck and trailer that helps cut down on chucking and metal clank, keeping the ride smooth and quiet wherever you haul.
The double-pivot hitch head moves both front to back and side to side to help absorb bumps and rough road movement. Built-in polyurethane dampeners cushion those motions so you feel less jarring through the truck and the trailer tracks more steadily behind you. The head also pivots automatically when the pin box makes contact, which makes lining up and coupling easier when you’re hooking up by yourself.
When you’re done towing, this hitch breaks down fast into two lightweight pieces so you can clear your bed without extra tools or heavy lifting gear. The custom underbed installation kit doubles as a Curt Double Lock gooseneck hitch rated for 30,000 lbs GTW and 7,500 lbs tongue weight with a 2-5/16" ball. Just remove the Recon base from the ball and flip the ball over into its hole for a clean hauling surface. It’s a setup that lets you go from fifth wheel towing to full bed use in minutes.
Getting your trailer level is simple thanks to three height settings built into the head assembly. Once you find your preferred height, just secure it with the included pin and tighten the bolt to eliminate any play or rattle. That means solid towing performance tailored to your specific setup every time you hitch up.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter. This has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this part will replace just the base assembly that's on the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter, which is part number DM8550045. Now that adapter, we do sell separately on our website. Now this is just for the base assembly.
It does not include the hitch head. The hitch head bolts to this center post here. The hitch head, we do sell separately. It's part number DM6169. The center post right here that the hitch head attaches to, has three different height settings to fit your application.
And the hitch height is critical 'cause when you go to tow your fifth wheel, you do wanna make sure you're towing as level as possible. And hitch height is always measured from the top of the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. And now the hitch height settings on this center post, there's three holes in it. So it gives you a selection of three different hitch height settings. Either a 15-and-a-half inch, 17-and-a-quarter-inch or 18-inch hitch height setting.
You just pick the one that works best for your application. Now, this base also, when you do install this over the gooseneck ball, it does give you a three-inch offset for extra clearance of your fifth wheel. It is is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice rust-resistant black powder coat finish on it. And it is a quick, simple installation.
Basically, this just installs over the gooseneck ball and it's held in place with the pin and clip. And also these two set screws right up front here. This part is made in the USA and again, the gross towing weight capacity on this base assembly is 21,000 pounds. Well, I Just Put On, Will Try It Out In A Few Weeks!!
Used one time for over 1000 miles, works perfect. Only complaint was the packaging was damaged along with the hitch. All cosmetic but still disappointing.

Hitch held solid in the truck bed. Seems like a good solid hitch to be pulling our camper with and would recommend it to others.
I was a little skeptical at first but this hitch is awesome! Super easy to install and adjust the height. No issues at all pulling our 5th wheel.
Install was pretty straight forward. First time using it, noticed alot "chucking" from fifth wheel. Hitch never turned, so I know it's torqued correctly. Not sure if it's the hitch or something else. But the hitch itself is great. Like that you can remove when not needed to give you access to full bed. Plus not heavy like the other ones. Just started using it, so we'll see how it holds up.
Great hitch, works as expected. The only complaint is the manufacturer stopped sending the locking plate for the nut that draws the hitch tight on the ball. They send a nut & a jam nut now. I prefer the locking plate & purchased one through parts & installed it myself. It’s my opinion that they need to go back to the locking plate design.
Melissa at Demco was an absolute pleasure to work with. She knew exactly what to suggest and was more than pleasant to work with. I hooked up to the camper we bought with ease, the jaws locked as they should. However, I wasn’t able to bring the camper home as the lights were not working. But I will say this, I would recommend Demco, the fifth wheel adapter is a well made unit, ruggedly built and easy to install. Thank you Melissa for all your help.
Haven’t had a chance to pull with it yet but I like the way it looks and how sturdy it is. Looking forward to trying it this weekend. Reason I am giving this 4 stars is,I paid extra for shipping to have it here quickly and only half of it showed up in time. The bottom have took a few extra days and I never received any email or tracking number on it. I had to make a call just to see if it was actually coming. Then when it arrived, the box was completely destroyed and the hitch had some scrapes and the stickers are in rough shape. More then likely UPS fault but still the no info on the second package and it being shipped 36 hours apart is frustrating. Just glad I had a backup.
Over all assembly was easy and I will update more on it when we return home next week!
I installed the Demco Recon Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Hitch yesterday. The Hitch was installed on a Reese Remove A Ball Hitch and fit perfectly after cutting the rubber mat in the bed of my 2012 GMC Sierra 3500hd Duramax Diesel Dually. I will be hauling a Keystone Avalanche 5th Wheel.

Pulled a 38' footer with no problems behind a 2016 Ram 2500 with a B&W Turnaball gooseneck hitch.

The Demco Recon is an incredible hitch! I originally bought a much cheaper hitch adapter from (another site). Regretted it the moment I used it for the first time, it terrified me and I thought I was going to destroy my truck and trailer. Luckily, that crumby adapter made me look harder for a much better alternative, which is when I landed on the Demco Recon.
I was a little nervous at first about making sure that I had ordered the correct hitch for my gooseneck, but after looking at the FAQs and Customer photos here on etrailer, I felt confident in my purchase.
When it arrived, it was very simple to install in the bed of my truck, I watched a couple of different videos on YouTube to make sure I installed it correctly. (The printed instructions don't mention what to do with the blue silicon bung). But otherwise install was very quick.
My first trip with the Demco was also my first time ever towing a fifth wheel trailer and we did nearly 800 miles. The wrap around lock on the kingpin gave me assurance that I had made full contact with the kingpin. The hitch was secure and worked amazingly well.
I'd highly recommend this hitch to anyone who is looking for an adapter. I never felt uneasy or questioned the hitch.

Hey Alex! Thanks for taking the time to leave your review and include a pic of your set up! I did some searching and I think the little blue part your are referring to is the urethane pivot bumper. That should go on the underside of the 5th wheel head yoke. I linked the instructions if you want to get a better idea of where it goes. You can see the blown out view on the last page. Took about two hours to install. Of course that includes taking the old goose neck adapter off the camper. Looks nice and I will be trying it out from Anchorage, AK to Louisiana, in September.

I would like to add to my 1 year review. Installation was very straight forward and simple. The only thing I did different was to drill a 716 hole on each side rail, into the channel beam that my gooseneck ball is mounted in. This added a little security to the mount but mainly, made it a bit more of a challenge to steal the unit. I do have to take the two bolts out to remove the hitch but only adds about 10 minutes to the process.
Hitch works great, easy to hook up the camper. I have a short bed truck and didn’t have any problems making turns when we drove through town or backing in the driveway. Ships out in two packages, set up isn’t a problem. Pretty self explanatory, if you’re loading or unloading from the truck either have someone help or break it down to at least two pieces. It’s pretty heavy all assembled. I would recommend this hitch versus drilling holes or welding on a gooseneck adopter to your trailer.
This hitch is really easy to assemble and install. The 2 piece design is easy to remove the 5th wheel hitch from a truck bed by yourself. It’s nice to be able to remove the 5th wheel hitch and use the bed without the permanently mounted rails of a traditional hitch.
Love this hitch. Had a couple of other gooseneck hitches and this one if the best. I'm able to install and remove super easy, with no help. I carry 3 tandem bikes around with a special build bike rack. Removing the main hitch and keeping the base works out perfect for transporting all 3 bikes.
The assembly seems very stout and sturdy overall. Was able to put the unit together in truck bed quite easily. will know more in upcoming weekend when fifth wheel trailer gets pulled home

Very quick shipment. The box did come damaged some but that was shippers fault not etrailer fault. The product was by far the best option To fit my budget and needs. Wouldn’t wanna try any other hitch. Installed in less than 15 min and was hooked up and towing in less than 30.

Working great after a year. Have pulled two different 5th wheels - both over 38'. Still some slight chucking, but nothing like my old hitch. Love the security of the slider bar and the 360 degree contact. I usually leave it in the truck, but will split it into two pieces when I need the full bed.

It worked fine while I had it, but upgraded to a Goose Box. The hitch was simple to use, but still rough with a rigid pin box. Also wanted to use the space in my truck bed without having to remove the hitch.
The hitch is easy to ensemble.
Great design. Pulled my trailer great!
But when I hooked up the second time to the trailer the roll pin that goes in the locking bar fell out. Wasn't a really big deal. But if I hadn't had any tools and a 1/4" bolt with a lock nut I probably won't have been able to hook up. Maybe they could change that. The best adapter from gooseneck to fifth wheel.But all in all very happy with it.

This product is far superior than the rest of the other adapters. It mounts on the gooseneck easy and even if I didnt have a gooseneck trailer or gooseneck hitch on my truck this product is better than any other fifth wheel than that Ive had in the past. Plus it gives me the best of both ways to haul any trailer.??
I just received my Demco Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter today. Installed it, hooked up to my first 5th wheel camper I just purchased, and pulled it home from about an hour away. Installation, hook up, and pulling was very easy and I am very pleased with the hitch. My rig is a 2007 GMC 2500 HD pulling a 2007 Sunnybrook Bristol Bay 3150 RL.

Hitch is still working great!
I wish I had known in advance that the hitch was coming in 2 parcels and that they wouldn't arrive together, but the hitch itself is great! Assembly is simple and I can quickly disassemble into 3 pieces for easy storage in a bay. Although it states that the top plate is 15 1/2" above bed, it is actually 16 1/2" at the lowest setting and I ended up adjusting my pin box to compensate so everything rides level. All things to be expected. It is much easier than hitching up to a gooseneck, especially since my tool box blocks the view of the hitch. It rides smooth with no discernible bucking on the road. I highly recommend this hitch and especially the people that I bought it from. etrailer has been great to deal with. Pics will follow when the weather clears.

Ive owned it and used it for a year now and still highly recommend it to anyone with a Gooseneck hitch in their rig. Id add some pics showing how level everything sits, but not sure how to do that now.
Can't wait to pull our new trailer with this great hitch set up. Super easy to install and looks great !

The hitch looks well built! I haven’t tried it yet but I’m going to soon!! UPS misloaded 1 of the packages, but our driver found it and made arrangements for me pick it up!! Sometimes you get someone willing to go the extra mile & our UPS driver did just that!!
