Does Demco Recon Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Hitch Adapter Just Attach to Gooseneck Ball

Updated 08/28/2026 | Published 08/19/2026

Question:

I'm looking to purchase one of these Ghost snack to fifth wheel hitches. My friend has A2025GM. C. Duley long bed and he has a ball in the middle of his truck, now mind you, I don't know a lot about this stuff. And I'm looking for some answers from what I seen. This fits right on the ball. Then, he can hook up to my fifth wheel. Camper, is there anything that I need to know before purchasing this

Hey Corey, the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # DM8550045 will work great for you and is just as simple as it attaches to the hitch ball like you asked about. So your buddy with a gooseneck hitch would only need this adapter attached to his gooseneck ball and he'd be able to tow your trailer. What kind of trailer do you have?

I have the Demco fifth wheel to goose neck adapter and it has worked great. I do recheck the tightness of the bolt that connects to the ball and make sure it is always tight. I use my torque wrench each time. The king pin latch seems very secure and safe.

Corey I will make this short and sweet, there is 2 different hitches you can choose from, one sits down on the ball in the bed of the truck ( this is the one I have) and the other is designed to take the ball out completely and the hitch goes down into that slot. Both hitches are very good, strong and dependable. I pull a 41’ with 5 slides with absolutely no problem. The folks at E Trailer are a tremendous help, they can walk you through everything.

It works well with one minor issue that I’ve had and that is the Demco in the bed of my truck will rotate slightly over time clockwise. I’m thinking this could be mitigated if I put down a rubber bed mat or go with a spray-in liner. I do love the ability to tow with another truck that has a goose neck ball if I needed. It’s also a pretty clean install with the gooseneck ball on the truck side.

@ArtJ That's interesting that it always turns the same direction. Yeah a rubber mat would help though for sure.

I really like this Demco hitch. I tow my 40' Fifth wheel Sabre with it and really haven't had any issues except for the slight rotating issue. As Art J. has mentioned in his comment his hitch turns slightly clockwise, mine turns slightly counter-clockwise even on the rubber mat that is in my truck bed. I have re-torqued the bolts before each haul and afterwards i noticed the hitch is right back to the slight rotation counter-clockwise. If there are any other suggestions on how to alleviate this issue without having to do any potential modifications to the hitch, I would appreciate it.
