Question:

That does answer some of my questions. Why wouldn't it work when it comes to the air ride system or sidewinder 5th wheels. Also does the adapter have to be bolted to the 5th wheel to operate. The 12 to 16 adjustable hight is not a issue sense I am running a flat bed. So back to the real question would you advice this to being a alteranive to pulling a 5th wheel camper across country for work as long as there is not a air ride or sidewinder 5th wheel set up. There is not really going to be an all-in-one type of fifth wheel trailer to gooseneck hitch adapter, but the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G will work in many situations.

It will work so long as the top of your gooseneck ball is between 12" and 16" to the base of the king pin box and the fifth wheel is NOT a Sidewinder, Reese Revolution or any type of air ride 5th wheel king pin. It should also be noted that often an adapter like this will void the trailer frame's warranty, which is something to keep in mind if you come across a fifth wheel trailer.

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G is bolted to the trailer's king pin and it won't work with Sidewinders because it will create two pivot points - one at the gooseneck ball and one at the turret. The Convert-A-Ball # CAB-C5G will work for you as long as you are comfortable with the fact that some trailer manufacturers will void the warranty using this adapter, as I previously mentioned. The other alternative, so long as your gooseneck is not recessed in your truck, is the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # DM8550045, which secures to any 2-5/16" gooseneck ball and is compatible with Trailair pin boxes, but not Sidewinders or Revolutions.
