Jeep Commander Trailer Hitch Questions and Answers

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2007 Jeep Commander Rocky Mountain Edition
  • I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite about Trailer Hitch # 36362. He stated that there are no known fit problems with this hitch and the Jeep Commander Rocky Mountain Edition. He also added that they have not received any calls about the hitch not fitting. So the # 36362 hitch will fit your Grand Cherokee. I have included a link to the installation details to the right. The hitch comes with the necessary hardware for installation. If you plan on doing some towing the recommended ball...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2007 Jeep Commander
  • If your 2007 Jeep Commander came with the factory tow package then it should have a factory 7-Way trailer connector at the back of the vehicle. You would follow this connector back to where it plugs in and that is where you would install # 118381. If there is no trailer connector on your Commander then # 118381 will not work. You would need to use # 118408 instead. I have linked the instructions and a video showing installation for you. Neither harness plugs into the back up sensor connector. I...

  • Determining the Correct Rise or Drop for a Ball Mount
  • In order to determine the correct rise or drop for a ball mount, there are some simple measurements that you can take. We actually have an FAQ on this subject which I have linked for you. Just make sure that when you take the measurements, the trailer and the towing vehicle are both on level ground. I have also included a link to our ball mount main page for you.

  • Is There Bumper Trimming Involved to Install the Curt Hitch # 13414 on a 207 Jeep Commander
  • To install the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13414 on your 2007 Jeep Commander you will not need to trim or cut any section of your bumper or add any trim bezels. I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out also. You also would not need to reflash the PCM of your vehicle either once you installed a Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118408. You would have to reflash the computer if you were trying to install the factory tow package wiring harness on your vehicle...

  • What Trailer Hitches Fit a 2007 Jeep Commander Rocky Mountain Edition
  • Since you have a 2007 Jeep Commander Rocky Mountain Edition, the CURT Trailer Hitch, # 13414, will not fit. So the directions are correct, it excludes the Rocky Mountain Edition. But we do have 2 hitches that do not exclude the Rocky Mountain Edition. You can use Hidden Hitch, # 87752, or Draw-Tite, # 75338. For a ball mount, ball, and pin and clip, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. It includes 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For...

  • Trailer Hitch, Drawbar, Hitch Ball, and Trailer Wiring Recommendations for a 2008 Jeep Commander
  • I can certainly point out everything you will need to tow the boat with your 2008 Jeep Commander. First, you will need a hitch. There are several available but I recommend going with a Class III hitch rated for weight distribution because you never know what you might be towing in the future. I would go with Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 87752. This is a Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch, capable of 500 pounds tongue weight capacity and 5,000 pounds gross trailer weight. When used with...

  • What Do I need to Prepare a 2007 Jeep Commander for Towing.
  • I would use a Class III receiver hitch with a 2 inch opening. The Class III hitches will have more capacity and available accessories than the Class II hitches available for the 2007 Jeep Commander. We have 5 different hitches that will fit your Commander. I have linked to a page that has all of them. None of the hitches we have for your Commander require drilling. A lot of Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler SUVs have started using hitches that are designed to bolt to the integrated frame bumper like...

  • Should I Choose a Class II or Class III for my 2008 Jeep Commander Sport 3.7L V6
  • We always recommend choosing a 2 inch hitch, Class III or higher, if one is available. As you pointed out, your Commander will have a lower towing capacity than other models and the hitch will be capable of more than the vehicle. If your vehicle can handle more than 3,500 pounds total trailer weight, you will have already limited yourself with the 1-1/4 inch Class II. Additionally, there are far more accessories available for 2 inch hitches than 1-1/4 inch hitches. This includes hitch covers,...

  • What is the towing capacity of Hidden Class III trailer hitch and will fit my 2009 Jeep Commander
  • The weight capacities of the Hidden Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 87752 are 5000 pounds towing with 500 pounds tongue weight and if you have a weight distribution hitch 7500 pounds with 750 pound tongue weight. This is an excellent hitch for your Jeep Commander and will be more than adequate for a four wheeler on a small utility trailer. With this hitch you will also have the option of using many different accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers. The hitch...

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2006 Jeep Commander Carrying a Motorcycle
  • Your Commander may have a hitch rated heavy enough to carry your carrier. You will need to check your owner's manual or inside the driver's door jamb to get the weight ratings for your Jeep. Check the hitch itself and make sure the tongue weight rating is heavy enough. If you cannot find these ratings your dealer should be able to help you with that. The 87752 Class III receiver hitch you have selected is rated for 500 pounds tongue weight. When deciding if you can mount your motorcycle...
