I am using the hitch for a car dolly and a bike rack. The fit is a little loose for the bike rackmI'll see it really works when get on the road.

I actually was never able to use it. It was bought to use with my car dolly and bike rack. It turned out the car dolly hitch was in the way of the bike receptor. So I have a brand new, never used receptor.

@John It sounds like your tow dolly has a surge coupler. If your towed vehicle has a hitch on it, you might be able to carry the bikes on the back of the vehicle depending on which bike rack you have.

by:

Quality is excellent. However, it did not work so I am not sure what to do with it. I thought I could use the top hitch for a Bike rack and pull a utility trailer with other toys. The trailer is too close to make a turn so good try but not able to use it. Thank you for asking. I did not open the box for a while because I was having the trailer worked on so assumed I waited too long to return.

by:

We sold our small motor home and purchased a small travel trailer. This hitch provided a perfect solution to how to use our bike rack while towing the trailer. It even allows room for the pickup tailgate to be lowered without removing the bikes from the rack.

The hitch is very hefty with a high weight limit - plenty for the GVW of the trailer (7,000#) plus 125# of rack and bikes.

Great solution for taking our bikes camping while towing our trailer

by:

This has been an amazing multipurpose ball mount. We purchased this to use with our Hollywood Bike Rack and also to connect onto our boat. We weren't sure if this would work, but it was awesome. It is very well built and We had to make some minor adjustments to the position of our boat on the trailer so the turning radius of the bike rack that was attached would clear the truck. This is very well made and solid.

Excellent. This has been an awesome product.

by:

Once the bike rack and the ball are installed there is only 3" of space for the trailer coupler to attach to the ball. Mine open hitch height is 4 ½”, most others are similar. I cannot think of any trailer/rack combination that this could even be used for. The only way it could be used would be to hitch up the trailer then attach the rack then load the rack over the trailer. Not a good or safe proposition. The only way to detach the trailer would be to unload the rack and then remove it from the mount.

Thank you for your feedback. The solution that I have would be to switch to a hitch mounted tow bar that slides into the RV receiver - making sure that the brand matches base plate - and then you could use a hitch adapter like part # RM-077-6. You would also want to make sure that the tow bar was as level as possible.

Absolutely still in love with this product!

I have been looking for a light up trailer hitch for a long time. So when I saw this one from etrailer I was very happy. I ordered it and it came in few days.
I also purchased the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver so I could mount the light and still be able to tow with out switching them out. Both Product's are perfect for my needs. Your company is the best and I would definitely recommend Etrailer to others.
Thanks for the great service!

by:

We use this on a luggage carrier on a Mercury Grand Marquis. My son hauls lawn mowers on the rack and it works great. Very well made

by:

Delivery was fast. Arrived in well packed box. Installed product with no issues at all. Works great and as advertised. Will be towing a travel trailer and needed a connection for a bike rack. When all installed, have plenty of room for placing bikes on bike rack. Really like this product!

by:

Raised receiver portion was exactly what I needed to attach my cargo carrier, as my Grand Caravan Receiver was too low to the ground.

by:

Extremely heavy duty. I will be towing a small aluminum boat behind our camper, and will build a 2 X 2 tube assembly to carry the spare tire on. I needed something to help carry my trailer spare as the hitch on the camper is mounted in such a way that I couldn't hang my spare tire on the bumper. This assures a way to carry the spare as well as tow my fishing boat!

A year later, still functioning as designed. I found my hitch pin hole to be slightly off but was able to make it fit. Still hauling the boat and carrier.

Great product. Highly recommend.

WOW! This piece of gear is built so solid that it is never a worry hooked up to my motorhome, towing a two wheel dolly with a Jetta Diesel Sportwagon and a 4 place bike rack in the upper reciever!

The turn around time between order and delivery was very quick and I was kept aprised of shipping during the entire time.

Thanks!

It appears that other comments say that in order to remove the car dolly from the ball, you have to remove the bike carrier. This seems to make the whole thing not very good. You do not mention this problem. It appears from the comments, the problem relates to the lack of space between the two receivers

by:

This multi hitch receiver fits our needs great. We need to use it for hooking up our pop-camper and for our bike rack. With this receiver, we can now take our bikes with us and not have to mount the bikes on the camper.

The delivery time was fast. We ordered this on a Sunday evening and we received it on Wednesday.

The only thing that we would change is that if the top receiver was about an half inch or more higher, then we would have more than enough clearance for our camper locking part, but there is enough clearance to make this system work.

how many bikes does your bike rack hold? and, have you noticed any problems with turning sharp corners and your bikes coming into contact with your tent trailer?

Patrick B.

6/18/2013

I will send Chad an email about your question. If he has anything to add, it will appear below his original review so keep an eye there. Turning ability is going to vary greatly depending on trailer shape and size, as well as the bike rack used and the shape and size of the bikes themselves. Also remember, this ball mount has a tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds. That means the tongue weight of the trailer, the weight of the bike rack and the weight of the bikes has to be less than 750 pounds or the tongue weight capacity of the vehicles hitch, whichever is less. If you need to carry 4 bikes and have a pretty hefty camper, this may not be the best solution. You can always contact us and let us know what you need to accomplish and we can certainly help you find a solution.

This is a heavy duty receiver it will work great for towing a trailer and having the ability to add a bike rack or cargo carrier. Etrailers coustomer service is outstanding always easy to order and fast shipping with great prices.

The receiver is still working great no problems or issues are all.

by:

Great product, but did not fit on my 2014 Traverse. The top receiver would rub on my fiberglass bumper of the Traverse and therefore only half the pin hole would line up with the receiver. Plus my 4 bike rack would not fit between car and pop up camper then.

Works wonderfully. Use it a lot and couldn’t be happier .

by:

Great customer service and excellent pr oduct.

by:

Disappointing. Although the manufacturing quality is consistent with Curt's normally high standards, the design leaves everything to be desired. There is not enough clearance above the trailer tongue coupler latch to mount a bike rack. Even if you somehow manage to overcome this, most bike racks won't clear a telescoping jack stand. I should have sent this one back!

A very valid issue. It can be done, but you will have to measure carefully to see if this piece will work with your set up. The measurement is 3 and 9 sixteenths of an inch from the top of shank to bottom of the accessory receiver. I recommend getting a bike rack with a rise as this will be the best option for you.

by:

This was just what I was looking for to raise my cargo carrier above the level of my car exhaust and will work for my bike rack as well (not at the same time). It will also allow more room to open the rear lift gate. Product appears to be of high quality but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Shipping was fast.

Ive had the receiver about a year now and have used it several times. Its well built and and works for what I purchased it for.

by:

I have never seen a hitch like this one, that I found on etrailer.com. I saw this hitch, and knew it would be perfect for my side by side, and it is. I can hook up to a small trailer, and then unhook, and slide in a feeder in the top receiver, and feed the roads of our hunting lease. This thing is perfect!!

Perfect!

by:

Very good service and shipping was on time. Good value for the quality of the ball mount receiver. I tow a car dolly behind my motor home and needed a place to mount my spare tire. Like the fact it's made in the US. very well built.

John H.

2/2/2018

I often dolly tow our vehicle behind our motorhome, but I cannot attach or detach the dolly from the ball mount without removing the bike rack mount receiver first, due to the height and the ball mount . I cannot release the tongue trailer coupler lever. Too tight of clearance. I wish the ball drop was at least 6 inches. This would allow for the dolly tongue trailer coupler lever to come all the way up without contacting the bottom of the bike rack or spare tire carrier receiver.

I originally thought this would work for a pop up camper and adding the bike rack. We have a Thule rack with a Jayco camper. It does not work at all for this set up. However, the product is excellant quality and delivery was prompt. I would recommend it for some other type of set up but not what I described above. I have to send it back.

Does this not work due to the turning problem with the bikes coming in contact with the trailer or propane tank? I was thinking of getting this but not if that is the problem.

The effectiveness of the Curt Multi-Purpose ball mount # D210 used for both hitch mounted accessories is dependent on the configuration of the trailer, cargo on the trailer, and the hitch mounted accessories. Using this with a bike rack is always interesting and you have to account for the hitch location on the towing vehicle, the configuration of the bikes, and the trailer set up. It is very easy for turning radius to be effected by all of these things. We do have other options such as towing bike racks and trailer mounted bike racks that you might consider. I have provided links to both of these product categories for you to view and see what may work best for your specific application.

  • Recommended Way to Carry 2 E-Bikes When Also Towing a Small Pop-Up Camper
I may have a solution for you, but there is not anything available similar to the Stromberg Carlson # CC-275 that will give you the 150-lbs capacity you're looking for. Instead, you could use a dual hitch adapter like the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers # D210, and then carry your bikes that way. This may not work if you've got a jack or propane tank on the front of the trailer frame, but it would provide you with a solution otherwise. It...

You can use the Curt # D210 with an adapter, but it will reduce the tongue capacity of your trailer hitch receiver by 50%. If that is acceptable with your combination then I recommend the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 which will give you 7-1/2 inches of height difference.

The best option I have that would allow one to carry bikes and tow a trailer at the same time if the bike rack is not rated for use on a trailer is a multi-purpose ball mount, the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount part # D210. That said, this option only works if the 2-1/4" drop that this ball mount offers will allow you to tow level or very close. The Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver part # MPG544 can be used for towing but you'll be limited to 4,000 lbs or 50% of the hitches weight capacity, whichever is lower. For example, if the trailer hitch was rated for 5,000 lbs then you'd have a new weight capacity of 2,500 lbs, not 4,000 lbs from the adapter or 5,000 lbs from the hitch. If you need to retain capacity then a better option is the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers part # D210.
