Many tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower your tow bar so that it sits level. To determine if your setup needs an adapter, hook the tow bar up to your RV and towed car and measure to see how close to level it is. The "safe zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3 inches above level to 3 inches below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

  • Why Isn't Patriot Hitches PH54FR Drop Hitch Adapter Rated for Flat Towing
The reason is pretty simple. The Blue Ox # BX88132 is specifically designed for flat towing and has been rigorously tested for that purpose. The Patriot Hitch # PH54FR adjustable drop receiver adapter has NOT been tested for flat towing a vehicle, therefore Patriot Hitch can't recommend using the product for that purpose as they don't know how their product would preform in that application. I've liked to product videos for both items mentioned above.

  • Can a Front-Mount Hitch and Adapter be Used to Push a Trailer Into Tight Spots?
You certainly aren't alone having a bit of trouble backing up a long trailer. Using a front-mounted hitch is fine, but the Blue Ox adapter, # BX88132, is designed for flat-towing so it isn't going to work for you. What you can do instead is attach a fixed ball mount, and the Draw-Tite # 80248 is going to give you 9-3/4" of rise. Please keep in mind that the Draw-Tite has has a max gross towing weight (GTW) of 3,500 lbs and max tongue weight (TW) of 350 lbs in the rise position. If you...

  • Recommended Supplemental Brake System For Flat Towing 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2 Door
To flat tow your 2016 Jeep Wrangler, I recommend going with the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494. This supplemental braking system is very easy to setup and use, and is also one of the more affordable braking system options available. I have attached an installation video on an earlier model Jeep Wrangler to help you with the install process. In order to safely tow your vehicle, you also need a diode taillight kit, safety cables, base plate kit, tow...

  • Adding a Hitch Adapter to my Front Mount Hitch for my Motorcycle Carrier
It is possible to do this as long as you stay within the weight limits but using the Blue Ox part # BX88132 is not allowed it is specifically designed for flat towing and has no tongue weight rating. Instead the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter - 2" Hitches - 10-1/4" Rise/Drop part # RM-048-10 is designed for uses similar to this and will offer a tongue weight rating of 400 lbs. So as long as your carrier and bike weigh less than that you are in good shape. Also please note that when using...

  • Tow Bar to Use with Blue Ox Base Plate Kit that Fits 2021 Ford Bronco
I know it doesn't seem like it's much but we can't recommend using the Blue Ox Acclaim part # BX4330 with your base plate # BLU97XR as the spacing is 1/2 inch too wide. I know you said you wanted a coupler style tow bar but the hitch mounted Bluex Avail part # BX7420 is going to be your best option. If the reason you wanted a coupler style is because you have a ball mount that would hold the tow bar at the correct height the alternative to that would be a high low adapter which does basically...

  • Curt Base Plate for 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK With Aftermarket Bumper
Since you have an aftermarket bumper, the correct Curt base plate for your 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK that is a verified fit is the following: - Curt Custom Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # C33FR The the other base plate you mentioned is designed for standard factory bumpers, and since you are getting a lift, what you will need is simply a high-low adapter, depending on the amount of drop you need. For example, if your Jeep was quite a bit higher and you needed a 10 inch drop you would use...

  • Is High-Low Adapter Available For Towing Jeep That Is 14 To 15 Inches Higher Than RV Hitch
You are correct that the adapter we offer for tow bars with the most rise is 10 inches. That is the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter, part # BX88132. When flat towing you need to keep the tow bar as level as you can with a tolerance of 3 inches. Since you said you have 14 to 15 inches of difference we do not have a high-low adapter that would keep you within the 3 inches. I have attached a helpful article that explains flat-towing you can check out.

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2008 Mini Cooper Convertible
Step 1 when considering flat towing any vehicle is confirming in the owner's manual that it can be flat towed and any steps required to make it ready for this procedure. The Mini with manual transmission is the preferred version for towing but the automatic transmission models can be towed so long as they have the Steptronic feature. I suggest checking your owner's manual; the information I found was contained in an online edition on pages 147-148. Flat towing requires a few components...

  • High/Low Adapter for Kayak Carrier on 5th Wheel
Blue Ox states that their high/low adapters such as the # BX88132 you'd looked at should only be used for flat towing a vehicle, and not for a situation where tongue weight would be applied such as towing a trailer or using a hitch mounted accessory like your kayak carrier. This being said, Roadmaster high/low adapters such as their # RM-048-10 ARE designed to handle a limited amount of tongue weight and would be able to handle the combined weight of your kayak carrier and the kayaks....

  • Highest Amount of Rise for a High/Low Hitch Adapter for Use with Tow Bar
When using a tow bar to pull your modified 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you will need a high/low adapter to reduce the height difference between it and the RV. The greatest amount of rise available comes from the two items shown on the linked page, Roadmaster # RM-048-10 and Blue Ox # BX88132. There is no adapter with 15-inches of rise. Generally tow bar makers recommend no more than 3-inches above or below level for either end of the tow bar, so you may need to re-position your D-rings...

  • How To Pick Out the Correct Drop Adapter for Flat-Towing
In order to find the correct high-low adapter for flat-towing you need to measure from the ground to the center of the receiver tube on the motorhome and then from the ground to the center of the base plate connection on the vehicle. The high-low adapter will need to make these two measurements within at least 3" of one another. If you measured correctly, the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars part # BX88132 would put you within range. I have attached a full list of options below as...

  • High Rise Cargo Carrier Solution for Ground Clearance
We don't have any great hitch adapter solutions that you could use to add additional rise to the hitch setup you are using to carry your hitch mounted cargo carrier. Doing so adds quite a bit of movement to the hitch setup and cuts the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. So your best option is to go with a cargo carrier that has a higher rise built into the shank. The enclosed cargo carrier that currently has the highest rise in the shank is the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier # M2205 which...

  • Application Of The Ultra-Fab Steel Roller for RVs with 2" Trailer Hitches # UF48-979020
Hi Frank, Are you saying you want to use the Ultra-Fab Steel Roller for RVs with 2" Trailer Hitches # UF48-979020 on a Blue Ox ball mount with a drop or an adapter kind of like the # BX88132? It would work with the # BX88132, but if you want to send me some pictures of where you're wanting to connect it I can confirm whether this would be the right fit or not. This specific roller is designed to fit 2" receiver tubes and be secured in place with a hitch pin and clip.

  • High-Low Hitch Adapter Compatibility with Winch on 1999 Tahoe with Front Hitch Receiver
The Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 10" Rise/Drop - 11-1/2" Long # BX88132 is designed for use with a tow bar. Using a winch would put additional torque on the adapter and the receiver that it isn't rated for or warrantied for. It would work fine for a 5,000 lb line pull that was fairly straight from the receiver. Beyond that it would work, but you would want to consider the torque on your hitch. It may be a better option to simply use a plate like the Curt Trailer...

To achieve a 10 inch drop to keep your tow bar within the "Safe Zone" (3 inches above or below level) I definitely recommend going with a single high-low adapter that features the full 10 inch drop. The potential issue with using 2 adapters like you mentioned is that it's going to cause an awful lot of movement at the connection point which may lead to failure down the line. With a flat towing setup using 2 adapters like this isn't as much of a concern compared to with a hitch mounted...

  • High-Low Adapter That Can Work With The Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System
Yes! We have a large variety of high-low adapters like the Blue Ox High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars # BX88132 which has 10" of rise/drop. Any of our high-low adapters will work great with the Yakima EXO Swing Away Storage System w/ Enclosed Carrier # Y44ZR. However, using an any adapter will cut your hitches capacity in half so that is also something to keep in mind. Finally, if you let me know what height you'd like the adapter to be, I'd be more than happy to see what we have for you.
