Video Transcript for Review of Roadmaster Hitch Adapters - Dual Hitch Adapter - RM-077-10

Today we're going to take a look at the Roadmaster dual hitch receiver adapter with a 10-inch drop or a 10-inch rise. Now when you're flat towing a vehicle with a motor home, you need that tow bar to be in the safe zone, and the safe zone is when the tow bar cannot be more than three inches above or below level, and the primary purpose of this hitch receiver adapter is to bring that tow bar level or into the safe zone. This adapted has a 10-inch drop, or if you flip it over, a 10-inch rise, and it'll allow you to put that tow bar in that safe zone position. This will also allow you to use a hitch mounted bike rack or cargo carrier while flat towing your vehicle. This is constructed of a sturdy steel. The shank on it, this portion right here, is a solid steel shank. The whole hitch adapter itself is constructed of sturdy steel.

Does resist rust and corrosion. Has a nice durable black powder coat finish on it. Now when you do install this into your motor home, it does require 5/8-inch diameter and pin or hitch lock to secure this into the hitch receiver opening. Although both those items we do sell separately on our website.A few specs on this. It's designed to fit into a two inch by two inch trailer hitch opening.

The dual receivers right up here are also two inches by two inches. Gross towing weight capacity on this is 10,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity is 400 pounds. The drop or the rise is 10 inches and where we measure that is here it is in the drop position. So that's going to be measured from the top of the shank here to the top of the receiver down here.

So if we put a ruler on it, there we go, you can see there's your 10-inch drop. And if we flip this over and put it into the rise position which would be this way, then it's going to be measured from the top of the shank here to the top of the receiver right up here. Whoops. Let's do it this way. There you go.

There's your 10-inch rise. Now the solid shank portion overall length. Let's get the tape measurer up. It's going to be 13 inches. Now the hitch pin to hitch pin hole center to center measurement if we measure from this hitch pin hole to this hitch pin hole is going to be right at 10 inches. And from this hitch pin hole up here to that hitch pin hole, that ones going to be right at 11 inches center to center. One last note on this part, it is designed for flat towing only. So you do not want to use this to tow a trailer or a tow dolly. But that should do it for the review on the Roadmaster dual hitch receiver adapter with a 10-inch drop or a 10-inch rise.

This drop receiver allows us to carry bikes or scooter carrier when our "towd" is hooked up with our tow bar. 664552

Well built product and did what I needed it to do. The rise part of the receiver to install a bicycle rack to keep it above my tow vehicle a lifted Jeep Wrangler. The only negative is the receiver tube on the bottom now drops the hitch basically 2 1/2 inches lower and I now drag the receiver on the ground on driveway / street dips. Would have been better if none rise came straight out. I don’t think I would drag then I should have done more measurements 656727

  • Trailer Hitch Adapter to Carry Bike Rack for Electric Bikes and Flat Tow Behind Motorhome
  • To use a bike rack while you flat tow a vehicle behind your motorhome all you will need is a dual hitch adapter. There are three of these that could work depending on the rise or drop you need. All of these have a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 400 lbs. - Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 2-1/4" Drop/Rise # RM-077-2 - Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 4" Drop/Rise # RM-077-4 - Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 6" Drop/Rise # RM-077-6 -...

  • How To Carry Bikes While Flat-Towing a Chevy Sonic Sedan
  • Yes, I do have an option for you to carry bikes with your flat-tow setup. However, since there is not a trailer hitch for your vehicle yet and you don't want to use a trunk mount or roof rack bike rack then you will have no other option but to use a dual hitch adapter and place the bikes on a hitch mounted back rack between the tow vehicle and toad. For this, we have a few options for you depending on your rise/drop needs. In order to determine what your rise/drop needs are we will...

  • How to Carry a Bike Rack and Flat-Tow a Vehicle
  • There is not a maximum length ball mount or hitch extension that can be used in a flat-towing setup. However, the further out you go, the less tongue weight the ball mount or extension will be able to carry which is not really an issue for a flat-towing setup but is something you need to keep in mind. The best option we have for you to flat-tow your vehicle and carry a bike rack is with the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter part # RM-077-2 for 2-1/4" rise/drop, part # RM-077-4...

  • Can the Roadmaster 10 Drop/Rise Adapter be Used for a Cargo Carrier and Bike Rack
  • You could potentially use the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10 for a cargo carrier and bike rack but you will be reducing the space on your carrier (like you said) and you are limited to 400 lbs of tongue weight. This includes the weights of your carrier, bike rack, plus the cargo/bikes that you will be carrying. Since 10" is quite a bit of drop I am guessing that your tow vehicle is a bit taller like a lifted pickup. If this is the case then you may be interested in...

  • How to Carry Bike Rack and Flat Tow Vehicle with 10 INch Riser Adapter
  • I do have a solution for you, however I do not recommend using the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver # RM-077-10 in conjunction with the High-Low Adapter # RM-048-10 that you already have. Using an adapter with another adapter like this will cause a really unstable connection and essentially reduce the weight capacity of your RV's hitch to an unknown number. A better solution for what you are looking to do is with the Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-515 (or for just the shank part...

You will need to measure your tow bar to see how much actual clearance that will give you for turning clearance. This rack does have a shank rise of 6-1/4 inches, so that will possibly help with hood clearance as well. I recommend using a shank like the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 10" Drop/Rise...

  • How To Tow a Trailer and Haul a Motorcycle with a 2012 Toyota RAV4
  • It sounds like you are wanting to carry a motorcycle on the back of your 2012 Toyota RAV4 while also towing a trailer. If that is the case then this is a pretty tall order for your RAV4 but is possible so long as the tongue weight of the trailer, weight of the motorcycle, and weight of the motorcycle carrier do not exceed the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle which is 350 lbs if you have the towing package. In order to mount both the motorcycle carrier and ball mount, the only...

  • Dual Hitch Adapter for Leprechaun Motorhome to Allow Use of Cargo and Bike Carriers
  • You can use the Malone Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 to hold your cargo carrier and bike rack. You'll note that the photo shows it offers enough clearance for your application. Do note that like all such adapters it will reduce your hitch capacity by 50%. So if your hitch has a tongue weight rating of 600-lbs, then its capacity drops to 300-lbs with the adapter. The total combined weight of the carriers themselves and the items loaded on them needs to be within the hitch capacity. Since...

  • How to Carry Two Bikes While Flat Towing With Motorhome
  • We definitely have a solution for you that will allow you to carry your two bikes though not the exact adapter you are asking about that already has a ball mount. The first option is to use a dual hitch adapter which does have the needed clearance between the top and bottom receivers, though you do need to ensure you get the one that has the correct rise or drop. For that you can use the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 6" Drop/Rise # RM-077-6, 8" Drop/Rise # RM-077-8 or 10"...

  • Distance Between Hitch Openings of Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10
  • The rise/drop of the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10 is the distance from the top of the shank that slides into the vehicle hitch to the top of the receiver openings. So when the adapter is in the drop position and the lower opening is the longer one the distance is 10 inches from the top of the shank to the top of the lower opening and then 2 inches to the upper opening. If you flip the adapter the distance is then also 10 inches of rise and 2 inches of drop. Since...

  • We have great solutions to allow you to tow a small trailer and carry a bike rack but the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10 that you referenced was designed for applications where a vehicle is being flat towed behind an RV. • Solution to Use Thule Bike Rack While Flat Towing Jeep Wrangler
  • It is true that you should not use your Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9034XT on your Jeep Wrangler when it is being flat towed. The reason is the amount of movement that far behind your motorhome results in the rack not being stable; this is also why this rack should not be used on the back of a trailer. What you can do instead is use a dual hitch receiver adapter which will allow you to both flat tow your Jeep and use your bike rack. The correct one will depend on the rise...

  • Since the bike rack that you have is the RockyMounts BackStage # RKY10002 that has the swinging arm I recommend using a Gen-Y Hitch over the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-10. Reason being that the Roadmaster is typically used for applications where a flat towed vehicle is also being used. I'm afraid that putting that much weight out to the side may not be good for the adapter. We do carry a variety of Gen-Y Hitch adjustable ball mounts that you can choose from. I'm...
