Video Transcript for Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster line of dual hitch receiver adapters. Most motor homes are going to have a hitch on the back, and it's going to come in handy whenever we've got to flat tow our vehicle. But another problem arises. Once we hook it up and we have our tow bar in place, where are we going to put our bikes We don't want to take up any more room than we have to on the inside, and putting a bike inside our vehicle can be a problem, as well. That's where our Roadmaster Dual Hitch Adapter's going to come into play. Now, this can be either in the rise or drop position.

Our Roadmaster series of dual hitch adapters are going to fit into a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening, so they'll fit your RVs that have a 2" hitch on it. And they're also going to provide us with two more receiver tube openings, that way we can carry a bike rack or a cargo carrier while flat towing our vehicle. Each one in the line is going to have a 400 lbs tongue weight, along with a 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight rating. Now, keep in mind that these are designed to work with tow bar set ups to flat tow your vehicle, and they shouldn't be used with trailers. So we did put our hitch adapter in the rise position, so we put that 4" on top, but since it does provide us with that 2" rise or drop on the other side, it dropped it down 2", which made it almost perfectly level. Making sure your flat tow set up is nice and level is always important because we don't want any extra stress, either on our front suspension of our car or pulling down on the hitch on our motor home, that way we have a nice even pulling weight when we're going down the road. Now, each one of our Roadmaster dual hitch adapters is going to provide you with a 2" drop or rise on one end, and on the other end it will have varying height differences, depending on which one you pick up.

There's going to be several different sizes available: 2-1/4" rise or drop, a 4" rise or drop, there's going to be a 6" rise and drop, and also an 8" rise or drop. So we'll go ahead and show you how to measure for the appropriate rise or drop for your flat tow set up.Most tow bar manufacturers are going to want no more than a 3" difference between the connection point of the motor home and the connection point of the car, so you want to try to get it as level as you can. The way we're going to measure, is you want to make sure that your motor home is on nice, flat, level ground, and that if you do have air suspension, make sure it's aired up at the traveling height. Then we're going to take a tape measurer, and we're going to measure from the ground just right to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, and in our case, it's just a little bit over 22-1/2". Now we can move over to the car side. Now again, on the car, you want to make sure that it's on nice, level ground, and we'll go ahead and park it.

This time we're going to be measuring right to the center of where our tow bar is going to attach at. So here you can see it's just under about 19-1/2", so we're right at that 3" difference, maybe a tiny bit over. So in our case, since the car connection point is lower, we're going to need a drop, but if yours was higher, you would get a rise. So there is that 3" difference there, so we're going to need anywhere up to a 3" drop to make it nice and level. And in our case, we're going to put it in the rise position, so we can just slide the shank into the receiver tube and line up the pin holes. Now, our dual hitch adapter does not come with a hitch pin, but you can pick those up here at etrailer.com, as well as any locks if you'd like to purchase those.

It is going to accept a standard 5/8" pin and clip, so we can just put it in and much sure everything's secure, and then we can load our bikes up. So now that we have our bikes hooked up, we have a spot down here below that we can hook our tow bar up to, so we'll go ahead and do that now as well.So as you can see, we have our bikes loaded up, as well as the tow bar being hooked up to our car, that way we can take our bikes with us and we can hit the road and start our adventure. And that'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster line of dual hitch receiver adapters.

Received quickly, day earlier than expected (predicted). Box was torn open at one corner, but this a heavy item. There was no damage. Item was as stated, looks very well designed & constructed. Now on RV, will tow TOAD & carry bicycles at same time with plenty of room. 521562

I received the two receiver parts I ordered in a timely manner. The drop hitch was different than I thought( there was no picture when I ordered) so I had to modify my bumper to make it fit. Seems well made and I will know more when I start traveling. 456684

I received this product in record time. This is a quality product that solved the problem of using both my bike rack and cargo carrier on the back of my RV. I will definitely be visiting etrailer.com for my future needs. 507942

Glad you like the dual hitch adapter! The adapter has a 400 lb tongue weight capacity, which means that the cargo carrier, whats carried on it, the bike rack and the bikes cannot weigh more than 400 lbs. This figure will be lower if the tongue weight capacity of your RV is less than 400 lbs.

I ordered this to adapt my bike rack to my hitch while I flat towed my car with a Blue Ox Aventa tow bar. I was concerned about turn radius and I stumped the etrailer customer service. I ended up with about 18” of clearance and 47” from the adapter to car. I feel it is sufficient. 494466

Wow, excellent customer service. Thank you Jennifer is rare in our world today to say that. Hitch adapter shipped same day on a late afternoon order. No extra effort; just the way this company refreshingly does business. Part arrived promptly and well packaged. No nicks or scratches on the part. Truly was well stored and handled at their warehouse. Following are some pictures of the hitch adapter installed. 606926

I need an 8 inch drop between my Itasca motorhome and the Jeep Wrangler I tow behind it. Had a basic Roadmaster drop hitch before I added a bike carrier. Daisy-chained a dual hitch adapter in and was ok going to Florida from New England and back last winter with the two adapters in line together. But heading to Alaska this summer and wasn't comfortable with the extra points of failure. This Roadmaster hitch gives me the drop I need for towing and the second reciever for the bike rack in a single safe package. And kudos to eTraileelr for the very fast shipping. We leave for the great north tomorrow!! . 663271

This hitch adapter works great! It allows me to use my bike rack with my cargo rack so we can haul our bikes along with all of our other stuff when we head out on our summer vacation. I also use it regularly as a hitch extender when I need to haul something in my truck with the tailgate down, and we want to take the bike rack. Only, drawback is it is pretty heavy duty (probably more than what I need), but if you are using it with a heavier trailer (e.g., camper or big boat), it probably should be that heavy duty. 660936

I ended up not being able to use them on my car. : My cars frame is too weak to hold a trailer or hitch for even a mobility scooter, which is what I wanted it for. So while they are very industrial stregth, and if my car could have used them, Im sure I would still be happy with them.
