Currently using one friction sway bar. On our last trip I experienced sway on our 30’ trailer due to gusty crosswinds. Adding additional bar to correct issue. ETRAILER had what I needed as they usually do, with expert advice also.

Using the second sway bar is working well. Perfect solution to eliminate excessive sway.

by:

Have waited until after a couple of trips to evaluate this Sway control product. VERY pleased at the additional control over the Sway caused when tractor-trailers pass by. Virtually eliminated. Installation instructions were OK, but drilling the holes did require some work. Most would probably have a trailer place do it for them.

by:

Sway controller fit perfectly on our vintage Airstream. Easy to install

by:

I haven't installed the items on my RV yet, however removed them from the package and they look great. I received the products in only 2 days, and they were packaged perfectly. This is my 2nd order from etrailer and I am 100% satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.

by:

I bought the pro series anti sway kit for our 5000lb horse trailer because the trailer would begin oscillating sometimes when speeds were higher than about 50mph. The damper kit solved the problem I drove it up to 75mph after installing the kit and adjusting the drag according to the instructions. Installation was easy and the instructions were great. The quality was excellent. All the pieces we're included.

by:

This sway control kit was easy to install and worked extremely well with our 22FB Airstream. Now when big trucks pass the rig is rock solid. Great customer service and shipping.

by:

Just came in, everything looks good and I don’t see any installation issues. Shipping was great as always etrailer is the only place to get you towing stuff.

by:

can't live without this and a small trailer necessary item... is also weight distribution!

A fabulous alternative to the large trailer swaydistribution bar. Keeps tongue weight down and works FABULOUSLY! Dandy item and what eTrailer is ALL about. Safe, easy to install and worth it.

by:

Towed my travel trailer without an anti-sway device and when tractor trailers passed me the sway made me nervous. Installed this and towed my travel trailer, sway reduced immediately. Awesome product from Reese.

by:

Works great

by:

Works GREAT to reduce sway which is important as I’m pulling a trailer that’s a bit long for my SUV. First time I towed it home without the sway bar and felt every little breeze and got sway anytime I went over 60mph. This bar has totally changed that and made me MUCH more comfortable towing - thank you!

by:

I’m so glad we purchased this and installed the day before our trip! What an amazing difference it made. Towing my trailer was tighter and no “wobbles” going over bumps! The sway bar was super easy to install and made for a much better ride for my recent road trip!!

by:

Seems pretty solid & a direct fit for the 1 I replaced. Last 1 busted as the threads on the adjustment lever stripped. Shipping was lightning fast!

by:

Thank you, packing was the best

by:

Recieved the stabilizer & I can’t wait for my next road trip. Bought it to eliminate sway when our Scamp is loaded & bike rack on the rear of the trailer.

by:

Easy unit to install on our 16' Scamp. On the first trip I noticed the difference immediately at higher speeds. Easy to take off when you get to camp and are about to back into the space.

by:

I think the Reese Friction Control Bar is quite effective in reducing the sway. The only criticism that I have is the grinding/groaning noise it makes when making turns. I haven't been successful adjusting the tension, as recommended in instructions, to eliminate this prtoblem despite repeated attempts. Also, earlier during the installation process I had contacted customer service with a couple of questions, but did not receives a response.

by:

I am yet to install the unit, but it arrived as described, and e-trailers was fantastic to work with.

by:

Fast, personalized service - I had questions about a specific piece, that was on back order, and they tried to figure out an alternate method of getting me the part.

by:

It has worked well for every trip including interstate and roads through the mountains

Still completely happy with the performance. Trailer very stable towing under all conditions Great product

by:

If you already have a Pro Series weight distributing hitch (WDH) this is the stablilizer that goes with it and I am sure that it is acceptible for use with other manufacturers of WDHs. Installation is very easy following the single page of instructions; mark where you need to mount the plate on the trailer frame, drill six pilot holes, bolt the plate down and install the ball on the hitch and you are good to go. My Pro Series WDH came with one stabilizer, but after one long trip with high cross winds and heavily rutted roads I decided that I needed two stablilzers for my 32' long travel trailer as is reccomended here for any trailer over 26' length. These stabilizers, while simple in design, get the job done.

After one year of use and thousands of miles two stabilizers on a long trailer is the only way to go. Finding the correct amount of friction is still somewhat of a guessing game, but the units are still working great and making the task of towing such a long travel trailer much more manageable.

I can't say enough good things about this product! We have a large Coleman pop-up camper (3000lbs) that is miserable to tow. It's like putting a leash on a cat and walking it into the ocean. You could not tow it over 60 mph due to the horrible sway. I mounted this sway control kit on (not really expecting any miracles but hoping) and was blown away. Absolutely night and day difference! My pop-up tracks perfectly straight behind the vehicle and has Zero sway! I highly recommend this system for anyone with a pop-up camper or any smaller trailer that's having sway issues. For the price and ease of use, this thing can't be beat!

1 year later and it still works like a dream. This was by far the best money spent on a product. I never could have imagined what a major improvement it would make.

by:

Purchased from etrailer super fast delivery and great price. Easy install. Excellent customer service, communication, and follow-up. Will use etrailer for my source of other needed products in the future.

by:

Towing my 19’ Jayco trailer with my Jeep Grand Cherokee without sway control was a bit of a challenge on the highway alongside tractor trailers. With a tongue weight of less than 300 lbs I didn’t need any load leveling assist so I opted for this economical solution. Mounting was straightforward and after a bit of adjustment to the tension, I was able to hit a happy point where the sway was virtually eliminated but the squeaking or groaning of the friction device at low speed was minimal. Highly recommend for trailers 3000 lbs and less.

After a year it continues to perform perfectly

by:

I ordered and received the ball mount and sway bar together. They were received very promptly and in excellent shape. They are very heavy, i.e., heavy duty. The bracket that was fitted to the trailer was about half a screw wider than optimal size for my smallish trailer but did fit. Installation was easy. The self-tapping screws functioned well. All-in-all, a 10 out of 10 experience.

  • General Rules for Sway Control Bar and Weight Distribution System Adjustment When Towing 7,000 lbs.
The sway control bar you have is a friction style sway control bar, and it is a general rule of thumb that, if the trailer weighs more than 6000 lbs or is greater than 26 feet in length, you should use two friction sway controls, one for each side. If you are currently towing the trailer and you are not having any issues with trailer sway when passing large trucks or in high wind conditions, then the addition of a second sway control is most likely not needed. Remember that the best defense...

  • How Many Friction Sway Control Bars are Needed for an 8,750 Pound Trailer and 2014 Ford F-150
One friction-style sway control unit, such as # 83660, can be used for trailers weighing up to 6,000 pounds. But since your trailer weighs 8,750 pounds you will need two sway-control units, one on each side of the trailer. You will also want to use two units if your trailer is 26 feet or longer. Since you have the Pro Series weight distribution system, you will not need to add anything else other than # 83660 since the Pro Series head unit comes with holes to mount 2 friction sway control...

  • Distance Between the Trailer Ball and the Sway Control Ball on the Trailer
The center of the ball on the plate that mounts on the trailer should be 24 inches from the center of the trailer coupler (where the center of the hitch ball would be when towing). The first two diagrams on the top of page 2 in the instructions (see link) shows the mounting dimensions.

  • What Prevents Trailer Sway When Towing
The best way to fight trailer sway is to have the trailer loaded properly by having 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight as tongue weight and by having the trailer sit as level as possible. I attached a help article that details how to determine the correct rise/drop ball mount you would need. If your trailer is loaded properly and sitting level when you are towing you should not experience any sway unless there is a suspension problem on the trailer. For a sway control system that...

  • Should I Tighten Sway Control Bar Adjustment If Still Experiencing Sway
If your trailer still sways with the Reese Friction Sway Control part # 83660, I recommend to tighten the adjustment nut when you plan on highway driving. Per the instructions you want to adjust the screw by 1/4 turns until you reach the desired control. Since the bar can be adjusted, you may have to adjust it to certain driving situations. You do not want to overtighten the bar to the point you cannot make turns at all. If you are planning on making sharp turns in town you may want to...

You do need to move the mounting plate of the friction sway control unit you have back to 24 inches otherwise you may damage the unit around a tight right corner. 2 inches is far enough away to not cause any structural issues. I'd probably still complain to the RV dealer though!

  • Can Pro Series Friction Sway Control Kit Replace Reese Sway Control On Trailer
Since this is a sway control kit that is made for Draw-Tite, Reese, and Hidden Hitch, it will be a fit for your Reese sway control bracket you have installed on your trailer, but you can take a measurement to make sure. If the ball on the ball/plate assembly on your trailer is 24-inches form the center of the hitch ball to the center of the ball on the plate assembly, then the # 83660 will fit great and you will not need to alter anything. The product installation instructions for part # 83660 doesn't specifically address backing the trailer, but if you're towing a short trailer that's prone to jackknifing or you're maneuvering into a tricky parking spot that would require a sharp turn while backing, it's a good practice to temporarily remove the unit to avoid damaging it. Finding the perfect adjustment for friction sway control like your # 83660 can take a bit of trial and error. It sounds like you are really close to the perfect adjustment though. I would recommend you tighten the adjustment knob a 1/4 turn and try that. That should put you right at the sweet spot. These products do make noise.
