Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Inspite of 3 bare metal places where paint is rubbed off the hitch I would give it 3 stars. Also the plastic caps on the frame ends are missing. I can paint your flaws but I can't replace your missing end caps. Please send me some!!!

I bought this hitch for my 2012 Mustang to tow an extra wheel/tire set and tools to track events, and occasionally a motorcycle, large tools, furniture, a bike rack, etc.. I haven't used it yet, but the hitch seems pretty sturdy. The hitch and hardware combined were just under 20lbs, which is pretty darn good from a performance standpoint. The powder coat isn't perfect but certainly acceptable for a hitch. My only gripe is that the hitch frame brackets on mine were slightly off. The drivers side bracket wasn't quite perpendicular to the frame, so tightening the fastener to the torque specification caused a bit of a deformation on the frame. I'm not too concerned about it, it should still be ok, but it's definitely not ideal. I don't know for sure because my exhaust system isn't in yet, but there does appear to be clearance for most stock and aftermarket mufflers. I do not think there is clearance for quad tip mufflers (such as 13-14 Shelby GT500 mufflers) so be aware of that if you have or would like to add quad tips. Otherwise, it is a fairly discrete hitch that should help make your Mustang much more practical.

I bought the Draw-Tite Sportframe trailer hitch receiver #24863 for my 2014 Mustang so I could haul my mountain fat tire bike around. It's a well built product and is easy to install. My only complaint, and the reason I gave four instead of five stars, is that the bolt fish wires are too short. They could be a little longer so a single install can hang on to them while threading the bolt/washer and feeding it into the frame. Other than that, I am very pleased with the product, customer service, and shipping from etrailer.com!

Check that your spacers have the correct hole shape (round or square).
Ordering was fine. Delivery was on schedule. Checked part quantities all there. Put the car up, dropped the mufflers (no play in pipes so had to unbolt the forward brackets - bit of a pain to put back). Fish the first wire, put on the spacer on the bolt, Doh it has a round hole and the carriage bolts need Square holes to torque against. Ok just need 4 spacers, surely they'll overnight the right ones. Nope, ground UPS for 5 oz. A week later its done.
The hitch fit well. I got away with poor man ramps.
Too bad they would rush the correct spacers.

Installed on a 2012 Mustang California Special. It fits perfectly! Install was a breeze. Only difficulty was the rear muffler hanger hit the hitch, but bending the hanger was an easy solution. On the creative swearing needed scale of 1-10 where 1 is "how you say it in front of Gramma" and 10 is "how you say it in boot camp", I'd put this at about a 3. Not bad at all, but don't ask Gramma to help.

The hitch receiver is well constructed and after installation fits well and mostly hidden . Installation took about 2.5 hours with another person helping here and there. My only complaint is about fishing the bolts with the provided wires - it is a hit and miss. I could get two of the bolts in place in no time, but the other two took 15-20 min each until I was able to get the wire to make it to the right hole, which was quite frustrating.

Shop took less than an hour to install the hitch on my 2013 Mustang GT. I attached my Harmar lift to the hitch. I use the lift to transport my Pride scooter. Combined weight of the lift and scooter are about 185 pounds. The hitch performs beautifully with that load.

Great hitch. I was impressed by the quality of this hitch. I installed it on my 2013 Mustang GT in about two hours by myself. I could have done it faster with some help though. In fact I would recommend having a helper if at all possible. The install was pretty straight forward. It was a little fiddly getting the wire pulls through but by the second one I was getting the hang of it and numbers three and four took no time at all. If you have acess to a lift use it but I did it all on ramps so it can be done but a lot of it will be laying on your back in ackward positions. Overall not too bad of a job and the trailer hitch isn't bad looking at all. Just the reciever shows and it isn't too noticeable. I was worried about the looks but it's not bad at all. I will be using this hitch for a bike rack and it is perfect for that job. I highly recommend this hitch for light duty applications.

I have that same modelcolor mustang. The pics look like its very low, almost ready to scrape the ground on a speed bump. Have you had any issues?

Darrel J.

12/9/2014

Ben, Speed bumps are not an issue. When backing into a parking spot with a curb, it touched. On some driveways the hitch will scrape the pavement. Although it really sounds terrible when it happens, it has yet to physically damage anything but my pride.

The ordering process was excellent as good advice and direction were offered by Susan. The hitch Draw Tite 24863 arrived as scheduled and was well packaged. The installation instructions and video were very helpful and the hitch was easily installed. I had hoped to use a 1 1/4 to 2 adapter and use my current 2 inch receiver bike rack with it. Turned out that was not possible because of how low the rack would have been to the ground, this was on a 2014 Mustang. I suggest buying a 1 1/4 rack that has a rise, rather than coming straight back, for use on a Mustang. Overall this has been a very positive experience and I will use e-trailer for future needs.

by:

Great hitch! Installation was not the easiest though, as dropping the exhaust was fairly challenging. I had some rusted bolts and ended up needing a professional to drop the exhaust for me, which wasn’t the cheapest. Otherwise, I think installation went just as described in the video. Functionally, the hitch worked great. I used it to mount a bike rack to my mustang.

by:
2014 FordMustang

The hitch looks great installed. The basic concept of the installation is pretty straight forward but if your car is not brand new like the one in the video, it won't be quite that easy. Prying the rubber insulator off was easier than expected. I experienced the first problem undoing the muffler clamp. The bolt head broke right off. I was eventually able to get the stud out of it rusty coffin. When I was finally ready to install the hitch, the backing plates didn't fit through the frame access hole. NOT ONE OF THEM FIT!!!. The backing plates were poorly stamped and very rough. Mine exhibited excess flashing on the sheared edges. I had to use a grinder to clean them up. Access hole diam= .980", backing plates= 1.060"
Lost a leader in the frame, spent a lot of time fishing out the wire ,bolt and nut. Need longer wire.( cheep fix).
The rest of the install was easy and I had a perfect fit.
Looks great, not an obvious ugly attachment which is nice for my beautiful convertible.
The hitch is top notch, just need a nicer hardware package.

by:
2014 FordMustang

I installed this hitch on a 2014 Mustang GT Premium. The fit and finish was excellent, the fishwires worked perfectly and the instructions were precise and clear. Installing the hitch itself was an easy 5-minute job. However, both mufflers need to be removed. This was an exasperating, difficult and time-consuming problem, and reinstalling them with the hitch in place was even worse. This is NOT a problem with the hitch. When everything was back together, it fit perfectly - nothing is touching or rubbing anything else that shouldn't be. The only other caution I have is that the receiver is buried pretty far under and forward of the rear bumper - maybe an extension is a good idea. Overall, a first-rate product.

by:
2014 FordMustang

Product may be nice, but it was obviously not tested on the 2014 convertible model of Mustang the device purports to fit. The access port holes in this model are not large enough to put the square plates or bolt through. Ended up using a drill to enlarge the holes, the kickback of said drill being enough to injure one the persons installing the trailer hitch.

Also there does not appear to be a way to reattach the lower exhaust bolts after installation as the hitch is too high to get the bolts in and the hitch itself covers the holes.

The person I installed it with has experience with installing several hitches and said it was the hardest to install of any he's had experience with. We ended up losing a plate inside the access port (the fishing wire is always a pain to deal with).

I'm not sure I'd recommend installation of this product by anybody but a professional.

My hitch was shipped same day I ordered it. It arrived quickly with no damage. I used my race ramps to do the install. Since I didn't have a helper close by, I centered the hitch on my floor jack and tied it on with some electrical cord. I was able to then roll it into place. Fishing the wires through was a bit challenging at times! Happy with the install. Now I can easily transport my bikes now. Highly recommend Etrailer!

Londyn was a pleasure to work with. So far hitch and bike rack installed but not used yet. Sure they'll be fine. Process from sale to delivery was very good! Realized they also sell wiper blades, so what the heck. Bought for my Acura and Mustang and saved money over my discount auto stores, Auto Zone and Advance Auto. Let me know when you start selling tires! Kidding, but if you do I want a discount for the idea.

I love the product. I had a bit of an issue with the instructions. I'd never used any bolt leads before. I felt that if there had been some instruction on how to screw the bolts into the leads and also how far to screw them it would have saved me a lot of time. Specifically I screwed the bolt onto the lead only enough so that the wire was completely around the bolt. When pulling the bolt through the frame everything worked great. The problem came when trying to push the washer / nut onto the bolt. The bolt lead wire was blocking (because it was on the end of the bolt) screwing on the nut. So I had to unwind the bolt lead wire as I screwed on the nut. So for anyone reading this... When you screw the bolt into the lead wire screw it as far as it will go. That way the end of the bolt when pulled through is easy to screw on the nut.

Receiver unit had some deep paint scratches and paint chips. The logo sticker was scraped half way off. installation instructions were somewhat vague, but I figured it out. A couple of the bolts had NO threads in them. I had to go to the local auto parts store to buy/replace the ones sent with the unit. Over all, the hitch fit well and serves its purpose.

  • Troubleshooting Difficult to Lower Exhaust of 2012 Ford Mustang for Hitch Install
Exhaust components can be pretty stubborn, but you have done everything correct so far. Once you loosen the straps and remove the exhaust hangers the pipes should be able to pivot down. I'd try letting the WD40 sit for a while and try again. Eventually the hanger should break free and allow the pipe to pivot. Also make sure you have the strap as loose as possible as even some tension can prevent the pieces from pivoting. I attached an install video that shows how this is done near the...
