Distance between mounting holes and dimensions of Brophy D-ring anchor

Note: Tie-down anchors must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the anchors being used. For example, if you are using anchors with a WLL of 100 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 400 lbs, then you need at least 4 anchors to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use anchors in pairs.

Well I haven't installed them yet; but if the construction is any indication of the performance, these will be a kick ass addition to my Trike trailer. I wanted swiveling D-Rings as opposed to the fixed D-Rings. Those are probably strong enough to hold my Trike; but why invest in a cheaper D-Ring to save a buck and always wonder if pulling on an angle is weaking the D-Ring. I just want to do a straight line pull to the anchor point. The bottom plate is also going to a a ton of strength to the unit.

If you get a chance and want some seriously good tie-downs, these are it.

by:

I put 8 of these on my trailer to strap over the tires on my side by side. Works great and doesn't stick up like e track. It was also convenient that the backing plates and hardware came with them.

by:

I am completely satisfied with the product. However, I had two problems; 1. One of the metal baking plates was missing from the box. 2. The online video on installation needs to be corrected to reflect the proper size hold saw to use. The video indicates you should use a 4 3/8" hole saw; however, if you use this size saw, the D-ring anchor base will not seat properly. In addition to purchasing a 4 3/8" blade, I had to go back and purchase 4 1/2" blade, which worked perfectly. Small difference in size, but big difference in fit.
The video recommends you be very careful about making sure the holes drilled are perfectly vertical, and they are correct! The holes in the backing plate are barely big enough for the bolt; so beware.
The good news is that customer service was prompt and immediately shipped me a replacement unit, not just the backing plate. Once installed, this is one sturdy anchor and should easily handle my wife's new Polaris Ranger.

It has worked great! Good solid tie down brackets.

by:

These have been mounted in my trailer for a year now and work great. I did drill 4 small holes for the water/snow to drain out, I have a little bit of rust around the holes I drilled. These will hold a car down very beefy

by:

Well made product, quick shipping, great customer service once again.
I used a router with a mortise bit to get a round and flat bottomed hole to install the hold-downs.
Much cleaner than the "use a hole saw and screwdriver out the chunks" install shown on the video.
Only issue is that the kits come with regular bolts.
Should have carriage bolts to allow loaded material to slide across the top of the folded tie downs.

Still would prefer carriage bolts in the installation kit for cargo to slide across rather than catch and damage the cargo. That change would make these the BEST PRODUCT by far.

by:

Excellent product! Strong and versatile design. Looks amazing on my trailer floor.

by:

I'm not exactly sure why these cost what they do, so -1 star.

Installation is super easy.

USE THE BACKING PLATE to drill the 4 holes. Don't mark and then drill. Just use the plate and let er rip. I used a jig saw with a fresh wood blade for the big hole. No bother with a giant hole saw.

The ad shows regular hex head bolts, but mine came with the want regular carriage bolts.

I am not too excited they are not galvanized though. These things are right there on the underside of the trailer bound to turn into rust turnips, so be sure to spraw with some weather protection the underside.

by:

I wish the 4 items would of all been the same. In my order I got one which had carriage bolts and three had standard bolts. Also two of the four had four holes in the bottom for water drainage. I did drill the other two to match. I would of liked to have all carriage bolts but they need to have square holes on top part, only one of mine had. Thanks.

Works very well. Glad I installed them

by:

These tie downs are very well built and perform as expected. Easy installation, just drill out your holes and bolt in.

by:

This is the top of the line tie-down rings. You will pay more but it is the best you can have.

I think I need more of them

@Wayne That can be a challenge. A straight cut bit in a router works best for wood trailer floors...

GREAT! I LOVE THEM!

Brophy recessed D rings are an awesome product. Would definitely purchase again. The instructions say to use a 4 3/8” hole saw but definitely use a 4 1/2” hole saw for a better fit.

by:

These seem to be very strong. The only thing I do not like was when drilling the bolt holes, it did not seem like there was much wood between the bolt holes and the hole for the swivel d ring. May need to increase lip size on swivel or design it to use smaller diameter bolts instead of 3/8s. I feel okay with steel plate behind it, but if I didn’t have that I would be worried.

by:

Good heavy duty metal. Ready to install. Perfect for securing my RZR.

I promised Amy that I would follow up after installing the d rings kit. I'll start by saying it is a very good concept. To have the d rings swivel flush mount setup makes the system very versatile which is a big plus. The install had some major problems that I shared with Amy when placing my order. There are multiple videos on YouTube that address these issues and Amy wasn't aware of these videos,so I promised her I would follow up with her as to what my experience was. Your install instructions on your website instructs us to use a 4 3/8 hole saw which I used. The hole is clearly to small for the d ring housing to fit in the hole pictures included. This is mentioned in all of the videos on YouTube. I will include pictures of the original hole and a final picture of the hole after I had to widen the hole with a jig saw. Also your website is confusing because it displays a picture of the d ring set using regular hex bolts that don't support the system to sit flush. Amy assured me that all the kits come with carriage bolts, which my kit did thank you. I can assure you it would help you sell more kits if you update the picture to include the carraige bolts and square plate hole setup. I really like the durability structure of the kit and now that it's installed, look forward to putting them to work. I hope my feedback helps with future marketing.
Respectfully Bruce Stropp

I installed these as part of my project to replace the floor of my 16 ft. utility trailer. I was able to drill and chisel the countersink without too much trouble. It is challenging to drill the holes for the bolts to align perfectly with the bottom bracket. In fact, I am not sure I could have done so with all the other boards installed. I recommend doing this as part of a new floor install. I agree with some other comments that the bolt holes are very close to the countersink hole. This makes it very difficult to avoid collapsing the bolt drill hole into the countersink hole, which further affects the ability to drill straight. I think if I were to do it again, I’d mark the boards, take them off the trailer, and use a drill press. All that said, I really like the look and function of these anchors. I think they will perform well in the rough-sawn oak floor. Here are some pics of the finished job:

Quality of the products

I love these D-Ring Anchors.. Quality and solid. Installation is fairly straight forward.. I have a car hauler and wanted something on the deck I could mount the car too.. I have used several times and zero issues.. I trust connecting any vehicle to those anchors.

Mike

Outstanding.. Have used those D-Ring anchors quite a bit with no failures or issues.. No rust.. Glad I have them on my trailer

by:

more tie down the betters

by:

The mounting holes are too close to the inside edge of the bracket. This significantly weakens the installation on wooden floors. A 4 3/8 hole saw does NOT allow the swivelling ring to mount flush. Significant grinding away at the 4 3/8 hole is needed to get the ring to mount flush. Brophy needs to move the mounting holes out at least 1/4" to allow the bolts to be drilled through the wood floor it is mounted on, and recommend a 4 1/2" hole saw to make the installation to fit perfectly.

by:

I love these anchors. The are such a nice addition to my trailer, making tie-downs of vehicles/cargo much easier. I’m seriously thinking about adding two more in the middle of the trailer to make securing smaller items easier. They are fairly easy to install, especially if you have drill and plunge router. I used the backing plate as a template to drill the mounting holes, secured backing plate with just two bolts while using router with top guide bit to cut out hole just deep enough for anchor to fit in, then drilled a drain hole in bottom of cutout to allow any moisture to drain out. It worked like a charm and made installation go very quickly.

  • Recommended Solution for Tie Downs on Floor of Suretrac Aluminum Trailer
I do have a solution for you, but I think welding something to the floor is going to really limit where you can place things to have them tied down. I don't think you're going to be able to get away from the issue with galvanic corrosion since most tie downs are going to be steel, you can still use a steel system on the aluminum floor as long as there is some sort of barrier between the two surfaces-rubber, plastic, wood, etc.. With all of that said, I've got 2 options for you to consider....
