Video Transcript for Brophy Tie Down Anchors - Trailer Tie-Down Anchors - RR5K Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're taking a look at the Brophy D ring tie down anchor with the included backing plate. Now, this tie down provides a solid point to secure your cargo with straps or bungee cords. We see these used a lot in trailer applications, such as on the flooring of utility trailers, or on the flooring and walls of enclosed trailers. It's a really nice design. Very strong and durable. We have this ring right here, which when it's not in use, it lays completely flat, so that way if you're going to drive over it, like if you're going to pull a UTV on your trailer, or a golf cart, it's not going to effect it. Also, if you're loading other gear, and you need it to go over this tie down or up against it, it's not going to effect it.

So, it's a really nice design. Flush mount installation. It's actually a recessed mount installation, and then it lays flush with the surface. But this lays flat, so when you need to use it, you can just lift it up, and you can see the range of motion that it provides right there. So, you can really attach your straps from multiple angles. Also, the recessed design allows your cargo to easily slide or be placed over the ring without any interference. The included backing plate provides greater support than mounting the anchor directly to your wood floor or wall.

So, this goes on the reverse side, or on the other side of the installation surface, and provides that reinforcement that it needs for its max capacities. But again, the backing plate is included. We're looking at a zinc plated steel construction, which resists rust and corrosion, and retains its strength through repeated use. It's a simple bolt on installation with the included mounting hardware. So, it includes four nuts, four lock washers, and four 3/8 inch by 2 and 1/4 inch long bolts. The maximum load or break strength rating is 5000 pounds. It has a working load limit of 1600.

A few measurements I want to go over with you real quick starting with the actual anchor and the plate that goes around it, or the bezel. Edge to edge going this direction, it measures 4 and 1/2 inches. Edge to edge going this direction, it measures 4 and 7/8ths inches. Now, the ring, that material right there, has a diameter of a 1/2 inch. The usable space, this inner diameter is 1 and 3/8ths of an inch. Now, when installing it, you will need a 3 and 1/2 inch diameter hole for it to lay flush.

You can use the hole in the backing plate as your cut template. Now, when it comes to the bolt hole measurements, these measure 3/8ths of an inch by 3/8ths of an inch. Again, the bolt size is 3/8ths by 2 and 1/4 inches long, and then the backing plate is square design. Measures 6 and 1/2 inches by 6 and 1/2 inches. Please note, tie down anchors must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. So, the weight of your secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the anchors being used. That's going to do it for today's look at the Brophy D ring tie down anchor with the included backing plate and mounting hardware.

I ordered 6 recessed D-rings Monday evening about 8 Pm. They arrived Wednesday morning 10. I live in Northern Wisconsin, That's awesome timing and its just standard shipping with UPS. The installation was good, just make sure you watch the video- It helps! It was easier after the first one - I used a 3 1/4 hole saw, went down to 3 3/4 in. deep. Then chisel it out to the 3/4 mark. Helpful Hint ---- I used about 1 1/2 hole saw (take the drill out of course) then you use the hole saw in a circular motion to clean up the 3 1/4 hole down to 3/4 deep. The 4 carriage bolt holes make sure these are straight. But you can exceed the 3/8 drill size to give you some wiggle room. Which you will need to get the D-Ring straight. I will use etrailer.com again and again! Very very excellent product and service! Neil P. Wisconsin 10-15-2018 574703

Greetings George, As always your products do the "JOB" they are intended to do. I have purchased these before and use them to secure a 800 lb Can-Am quad in a enclosed cargo trailer with Erickson Ratchet straps. This combination works every time, but now I have to transport 2 quads, so that is why I bought 2 more tiedowns. The reason you received 4 stars is that the written description of this product is 1,600 lb for the working load and the video says 5,000. Either way these products work, are easy to install with 2 people and have not failed in any many so far. Respectfully, Gary Peterson 567366

I have had 4 of these on my utility trailer for almost a year and they work great. I have tied down everything from a 4 wheeler to a small utility tractor with a loader on it and they hold great. The backing plate makes all the difference when mounting in wood. I have also carried several loads of compost and there is no corrosion on the tie down ring or the housing. 109231

Hold downs came last week and I installed the yesterday. The only problem was that the mount holes aren't square. The bottom plate only fits one way, and of coarse it wouldn't fit where I had it. Cut the plate and everything is fine. I mounted them in the corners of my race trailer to hold everything in place going down the road. 183471

Bought 4 of these recessed tie-downs with backing plates to secure my Ural Gear Up while transporting on my trailer. Very pleased with the price and quality. These tie-down points are heavy duty, and the installation video on the etrailer.com website was very helpful. I will shop trailer.com again! 178277

Shipped in a timely manner, as always with you guys. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because these D-rings did not come with any installation instructions, to state that the holes were not square. I had to turn one of the backing plates 90* because of an interference with a bulkhead in my toy hauler. The holes are so close to being square it was hard to pick up on it. Once I discovered that they were not, I trimmed the backing plate to fit, and turned it back 90*, and holes lined up and finished the install. Overall, good product. 680068
