Will Curt Cargo Carrier Part # C18152 Interfere with Tailgate on 2004 Chevrolet Blazer

Updated 05/03/2026 | Published 11/23/2014

Question:

I have 2004 Chevrolet Blazer with a fold down tail gate. I would like to know if the tail gate will come in contact/interfer with the cargo carries once installed? I can not fiind over all high diminisons for this cargo carrier. If I had measurements from the center of the hitch pin to very top of the cargo carrier that would help me determine if it would work. Thanks

When installed in the receiver, the highest point of the Curt 24x60 Railed Cargo Carrier #C18152 is 10-7\8 inches above the shank that slides into the receiver.

Since I cannot say for certain how far below the tailgate your receiver falls on your Blazer, if you would hold a measuring tape even with the top of the receiver opening and measure up 10-7/8 inches, you should be able to determine whether the carrier would interfere with opening your tailgate fully.

We have tested this carrier on a Chevy Avalanche and there is about 4-1/8 inches of clearance when the cargo carrier is empty.

Just a heads up, the tailgate will not open with the spare tire on and the cargo basket in the receiver.

Sorry - I was talking about the tailgate of a Bronco Big Bend.
