Maximum Towing Capacity for a 2011 Honda CRV
Updated 09/15/2014 | Published 09/13/2014 >
Question:
I have a 2011 Honda CRV. I am considering buying a 16 ft Casita travel trailer. I am reading all sorts of posts regarding the max weight for the CRV. The consensus in 1500#. The same vehicle in Europe is rated at 1500kg which is 3306#. Do you have any ideas about this disparity? Some folks say the trailer hitch can increase the towing capacity for the vehicle. I dont see how this is possible. The Casita has 15 inch tires and electric brakes for the trailer. Any thoughts on this?

I would certainly view the owners manual on the 2011 Honda CR-V to ensure the correct towing capacity. I wouldn't recommend towing a 16 foot Casita travel trailer weighing 2100-2385 pounds if the capacity turns out to be 1500 pounds which is what it is for United States spec models.
The trailer hitch class I, II and III, IV and V will not increase the towing capacity but it will also depend on the vehicle towing capacity. Whichever is lower, the hitch or vehicle capacity, is what you would need to go by.
I have included a couple articles below for you as well.
