Will 14 Gauge Wire Fit Inside the Grommets on the etrailer Trailer Wiring Junction Box?

Updated 10/15/2026 | Published 10/11/2026

Question:

Several years ago I bought the Malone micro sport trailer and I can haul 4 kayaks. I bought it from your site. Great trailer. And, your site is the best one I’ve ever found period. The only negative I have about the trailer is that the wiring harness I have to repair once a year, its just too thin not heavy duty at all. So I’m building my own from scratch. 14 gauge jacketed harness for the 4 wire set up. I’m going to buy from your site, also your etrailer terminal boxes 19.99 ea. My question is will the 14 gauge jacket fit thru the cut outs on that box. I’d also like to use gromets to further protect the jacket from rubbing on the plastic, but if that’s not possible I don’t have to.

Welcome back Joe and thanks for the kind words. The holes in the side of our etrailer Junction Box item # e99009 will definitely be large enough for the 14 Gauge, 4 Conductor Jacketed Wire item # DW04923-1.

The holes and grommets included with our etrailer Junction Box item # e99009 will work with up to a 5/8" outer diameter wire. The 14 Gauge, 4 Conductor Jacketed Wire item # DW04923-1 has an outer diameter of 7/16". The grommets will ensure a tight seal to keep moisture out.

What kind of kayaks do you haul with your Malone MicroSport Trailer item # MPG462G2? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

Joe, I have used this box to house my seven pin harness wire for my 5th wheel. I think as far as the wiring of the 14 gauge wire you should be fine. The only thing I would be concerned over maybe is were you put it. If you’re putting small boats on and off your trailer if you hit it a couple of times you may crack the housing of it. Mine is in a place it’s not going to get hit. There is a place to screw down the wire harness to keep it from moving or pulling out. I had no issues with wiring mine up. The one hint I could give you is the box cover only goes on one way. I failed to see that till I had mine all wired up, so the name on mine is upside down. I thought the cover would go on either way…..wrong. Other than that it’s a good unit and I like it. Hope this helps.

I purchased the same 99009 junction box to rewire my 16ft utility trailer. It has the 7 pin connector wiring harness which is around 1/2” in diameter and it fit in the grommet with no problem. It is very nice having a junction block to split wiring up. If there is an issue with just one circuit you can get into the box and just change it out. More organized.

I have one of these boxes. Very high quality. I ran 7 way jacketed wire thru one of the grommets to give you an idea of fit. The wire included four 14 gauge wires, two 10 gauge wires, and one 12 gauge wire.
