Can I Replace a Dometic Duo-Therm Wired to a Dometic Control Center with a Furrion Chill Cube?

Updated 10/05/2026 | Published 10/02/2026

Question:

I ahve a 2006 Tiffin Allegro Bus 42QDP with 3 ducted Duo Therm AC/Heat pumps - 630516.331, 5 button thermostat, and aqua hot as the furnance on zones 1 and 3. I need to replace the unit that is zone 1. Want to go with the chil cube. What units would I need and how would I handle the zone 1 furnance?

Hi Roger,

At this time the Furrion Chill Cube part # FR99TD is exclusively designed to be a single zone unit. Because of this it wouldn't be a suitable replacement for your multi-zone set up. If you wanted to install a designated thermostat for it, you definitely could but if you replaced all three with a Chill Cube you'd have three different thermostats.

Since you're operating all three Dometic units off a 5-button control, it sounds like you have the Dometic control center thermostat. Unfortunately, none of the Furrion units (Chill Cube or Chill HE) are compatible with the Dometic control center because how it communicates with the thermostat is different. There's also a compatibility issue due to the refrigerant switch from R410a to R32 in early 2025. The Dometic ACs have the old R410a and the newer systems with the R32 are not backwards compatible with any components made earlier than 2025. Because of the refrigerant change, any new air conditioner unit will not be compatible with the Dometic control center (If you want you can double check that with Dometic, but from what info I have if you upgraded to the 10 button control center to work with a new Dometic unit it will throw a code with the Duo-therms connected because they're not compatible).

All that to say, the easiest solution and the only way to get a Furrion Chill Cube installed, would be by installing the Chill Cube with its own independent thermostat. As for the furnace, it is possible to wire a furnace into the Furrion Chill Cube thermostat, however, since it's also wired into the Dometic control center it might not be possible to have it connected to both thermostats. It would be easiest and safest to only have the thermostat connected to the Dometic control center as it is now.

Are you wanting to replace all air conditioners with a Chill Cube in the future?

Sorry I must not have been clear in my question post. I am aware the chill cube can not be integrated with the dometic thermostat/control system. My intention was more what you described in your next to last paragraph without putting the furnance on the furrion chill cube termostat. I want to install the chill cube as my front AC and use the remote as its thermostat. That would leave me with the dometic units as my mid and back AC/heat pumps operated by the existing thermostat. My concern is how do I remove the front dometic unit from the 5 button control thermostat and move the zone 1 furnance control to zone 2 or do I leave the existing thermostat as is?

@RogerW Sorry, I was focused more on the fitment for replacing the Dometic AC unit. To swap the furnace from zone 1 to zone 2, you'll need to open the control box for the middle unit (power needs to be off), toggle the Zone 2 switch to the off position and the Zone 1 switch to the on position. All the control boards are identical from factory, so it's the switches that tell them where the ACs are oriented at on the RV. Once that's done, you'll need to do a system reset on the Dometic thermostat, so it'll forget the old layout and learn the new one. Then you'll need to reconnect the two RJ-11 data lines, one comes from the wall thermostat and the other runs to the middle AC. Take both plugs and click them into an RJ-11 straight-through coupler (a female-to-female phone jack adapter) so it bridges the physical gap in the ceiling and creates a direct connection from the wall thermostat to the middle AC. The two furnace wires, usually blue or blue and white, will need to be extended and run through the ceiling to reach the middle AC's control board. Once that's done, when you select furnace under zone 1 it will send the command to the middle AC's control board.

@RogerW Whew! All that rewiring sounds like a lot of work! If you don't want to go through that, I did find that people wanting to do the same swap to a Furrion, chose to leave the control box from the front AC unit in the ceiling. They disconnected the communication and 120V power cables going to the AC unit and tucked the control box into the ceiling. Since the control box is still powered and the communication chain hasn't changed the thermostat still recognizes it as zone 1 and operates the furnace normally.
