Dashboard Circuit for Install of Demco Stay In Play
Updated 09/30/2026 | Published 09/28/2026 >
Question:
I purchased the Demco Stay n Play and installed on a Jeep Cherokee. It is GREAT! We are changing the tow vehicle. Previously I used the existing brake controller line blueon the towing vehicle to power the dashboard LED that came with the Demco. I will be attempting to do the same and assume any 12v dash light will work in this application. Is that correct?

Expert Reply:
Hey Peter, Yes this will work. Demco specifies that any 12V indicator light can be used for the coach-mounted brake notification light. You can also run that signal through an unused terminal/wire in the tow wiring connector, as you did previously with the blue brake-controller wire. Just make sure that circuit isn't also connected to an active trailer brake controller output. The light should be wired so it illuminates only when the Stay-IN-Play has actually applied the towed vehicle's brakes.

I have only used the parts included. I have no knowledge of different lights. Trust the expert.

Thank you Jameson. Yes that is how I set it up. There was a prior electric brake controller on that vehicle and I disconnected it and utilized the same line through the umbilical.
