Does Gen-Y 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Provide Additional Turning Clearance

Updated 09/09/2026 | Published 09/07/2026

Question:

I have a 37 Grand Design pulled by my 2012 F250 powerstroke with a short bed requiring me to have a slider hitch. Does the 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter have any fore/aft offset added in so I wont have great concerns about hitting the cab when backing understanding you still have to be cautious, or is this going to be a problem with my short bed?

Hey Kevin, this is a great question but the Gen-Y 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY72SB was not designed to provide additional turning clearance for short bed trucks. It would give you basically the same turning clearance as if you had your slider hitch in the forward most position. How much turning clearance do you have now with the hitch in forward most position? What gooseneck hitch do you have? I can see if there's an offset ball available.

Thanks for the quick response. I have a B&W gooseneck box.

@KevinF A B and W underbed Turnoverball gooseneck hitch or a B and W gooseneck ball that fits a Ford OEM rail kit? It sounds like you have the Turnoverball gooseneck hitch which we have an offset 4 inch ball for that with the part # BWGNXA4085.

Hi Kevin, I used the black Brinkley Gen Y gooseneck hitch. Fundamentally the gooseneck is in about the same place as the fifth wheel hitch was. I used the 5 inch offset puck pinbox for the GMC truck bed for additional room to avoid hitting the cab. I'm sure the Ford system should have something similar to fit your truck bed. The extra 5 inches in back for the offset is really a lifesaver. The GMC 3500 Denali has an 81 inch box for the standard size. I hope this helps you. Aside from fitment the Gen Y really rocks!! So much smoother, solid and manueverable.
