Will The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter Reduce My Hitches Weight Capacity?

Question:
When using this adapter is my overall trailer hitch capacity reduced? I noticed that some adapters manufacturers state that your trailer hitch capacity is reduced by 50 percent.

Hey Jeff, thanks for reaching out. Yes, generally speaking, using a hitch adapter/extender does reduce your hitches overall carrying capacity. Our rule of thumb is that an adapter will reduce your hitches weight capacity by half. The same goes for the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM83SR. Your hitches capacity will be reduced by 50%. Extending the hitch increases the downward leverage on the hitch, so any weight placed on the hitch is exaggerated.
The # RM83SR can be used for trailer towing or for flat towing, you just need to be careful not to overload your hitch since its capacity will be reduced.

Towing a 20 ft Bayliner boat. Total weight with trailer is approximately 4500lbs. Top hitch receiver will have a bike rack with one e-bike approximate total weight of 100lbs.
