Will the 2-1/2" to 2" Trailer Hitch Reducer and Extender Work w/a 1UP Bike Rack?

Updated 08/27/2026 | Published 08/17/2026

Question:

I have a One up two bike rack and recently purchased a 2500 which has a 2 1/2inch receiver and the bike rack is secured using an allen wrench for the tensioner.i need to be able to pin the reducing hitch to the truck and have enough left over for the rack. Do you know if your reducing will work?

Yes, it will Rick and congrats on your new truck! Our Trailer Hitch Reducer and Extender item # e53YR will definitely work with your 1UP bike rack. Once it's installed on your Ram's 2-1/2" hitch the extender will work like a 2" receiver on any other vehicle so the tensioner you have to adjust will work the same way.

Our Trailer Hitch Reducer and Extender item # e53YR has 7" of space between the hitch pin holes so you'll have plenty of clearance as well for your 1Up bike racks 2" shank. You'll want to use our etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock item # e98881 to secure the extender to your truck's 2-1/2" receiver.

I also recommend using our etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar for 2.5" Hitch Receivers item # e55YV. This anti-rattle device is going to attach to the collar on your Ram's 2-1/2" hitch. It does a great job of immobilizing the shank of ball mounts and extenders inside the receiver. It also comes with it's own 2-1/2" to 2" reducer. So any 2" ball mounts you have from your older vehicle can be reused.

I used the reducer on my Yakima rack to get to my F250 2.5 hitch and it worked well. The length helped to afford right distance for setback. I would recommend using the anti rattler device also. In my application the side to side wobble was the biggest challenge. The more dampening you can apply the better off you will be. My application was the Yakima rack to haul x2 TREK e-mountain bikes. The weight was substantial. But you won’t go wrong with any e-trailer recommendations or support info. Their product support is A1. Larry
