Need a brake controller for 2024 ford expedition xlt. It does have the basic tow prep package from the manufacturer but does not come with trailer brake controller

Hello Joe,

Welcome to etrailer, I'm glad you found us!

For your 2024 Ford Expedition XLT, you will want the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR. I really like this brake controller because it's proportional, so you're going to get nice smooth braking. Also having the knob at arms reach for easy adjustability or for the manual override (most of the time is used to correct sway) is a nice touch.

I was able to confirm with both Curt and Redarc that they do not have a vehicle-specific pigtail listed for the 2024 Expedition, so you will need to splice in the universal wiring harness that comes with # RED52VR.

However, if you're able to look under your dash and see a factory brake controller connector there, please respond directly to the email you receive with a picture of the connector. I'll be happy to take a look at it and see if we can find you a plug-in option before you start splicing into anything.

What are you going to be towing with the Expedition?

I went to the ford garage they said there is nothing under the dash for a brake controller and nothing coming out of the 7 way for a brake controller

@Joe Thanks for getting back to me, Joe. Since there isn't a factory brake controller plug under the dash, you will need to hardwire the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR. If your Expedition also does not have the brake output wire running back to the 7-way, you will need to add that circuit. You can use 25' of Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge Brake Wire # 10-2-1 (sold by the foot) to run the brake output from the Redarc back to the brake output terminal on your existing 7-way. You will also need the Pollak 30 Amp Circuit Breaker # PK54530 for the brake controller power circuit. This is basically the same type of wiring you would be doing with the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7, but since you already have a 7-way, there is no reason to buy the entire kit. Before we add the 40 Amp In-Line Circuit Breaker # 9510 to the list, can you check your existing 7-way and let me know if the 12V auxiliary pin has power? If it already has power, we don't need to add that circuit. If it doesn't, then we can go over what you will need to get power back there as well. I attached a video that my buddy Ryan did explaining the # ETBC7 so you know what to look for going back to the 7 way.
