Question:

I'm looking at adding a swing away to the rear of my setup so I can clear rear doors. I have your Hollywood Destination E Bike Rack with the battery bags and a pair of 50 lb e-bikes I'm carrying right now. Will this be able to handle that setup?

Hey Kate! Yes, the Kuat Pivot v3 Swing Away Hitch Extender # KU38CR will work with your Hollywood Racks Destination E Bike Rack # HLY36GR and 50 lb e-bikes. The weight of your bike rack is 46 lbs, so with the two e-bikes you're at a total weight of 146 lbs. The Kuat v3 has a capacity of 250 lbs up to 28", and 150 lbs 28" - 40" from the hitch pin hole so you're set no matter what.

Keep in mind, the use of an adapter like this reduces the capacity of your hitch by 50%. You will need a high enough rating to handle the bike rack, e-bikes, and the Pivot v3 at the reduced capacity. The Pivot v3 itself weighs 51 lbs so you're looking at 197 lbs total for the setup. I went ahead and added a dimensional drawing below if you want to check for clearance.

Are you mounting everything on a Class B with doors on the back or some other kind of setup?

Thanks! This is going on our Class B with the barn doors. I mainly want to be able to swing the bikes out of the way when we need to get into the back and access our other gear.

@KateP perfect, that is exactly the kind of setup the # KU38CR works well for. You'll be able to swing the rack and bikes out toward the passenger side so you can get them out of the way when accessing the rear doors. If you need anything else don't hesitate to reach out!
