Is The Adhesive Sufficient For Installing The Rubber Wiper Seal SR48FR Or Do I Need To Add Screws?

For installing steele edpm bulb and seal for rv slide out is the adhesive sufficient or should screws be added for more durable installation?

Hey Bill, thanks for reaching out. The adhesive on the Steele Rubber # SR48FR is designed to hold the seal in place by itself, so in most applications you don't need to add screws. The adhesive's main job is to position and retain the seal while the bulb seal is compressed against the slide when it's closed. As long as the mounting surface is clean, dry, and free of old adhesive, it does a great job.
I actually wouldn't add screws unless your slide was originally built that way. Running screws through the seal can create potential leak points and may keep the seal from lying flat. If you want the best bond, clean the mounting surface thoroughly, remove all traces of the old adhesive, and install the seal when the temperature is around 60°F or warmer so the adhesive can grab properly. Once it's installed, applying firm pressure along the entire length helps the adhesive fully bond.

Thank you for your insight, Jesse. By the way, are mineral spirits a good surface prep for adhesive, or should something else be used? The camper is a 2014 Heartland Landmark Grand Canyon. It has screws through the base flapper with the bulb passing through a channel on the base. In other word it is two pieces. From replacing all the hydraulic lines to replacing the carpet it has kind of made me into a part-time RV tech. The camper is getting older but fortunately I do enjoy working on stuff.
