Which Equal-i-zer for Toy Hauler with Dry Weight 5,400 lb and Tongue Weight 820
Updated 07/15/2026 | Published 07/13/2026 >
Question:
I’m getting a toy hauler that is 5400lbs empty and I weighed the tongue weight with the btbrv scale at 820 empty without propane, and a gvwr of 7800. The most I’ll load in the garage is 2 dirt bikes and some mountain bikes so about 800lbs total. Should I get a 1000lb weight distribution hitch or a 1200lb one?

Hey Jannik, your toy hauler has the garage in the rear right? That's most common location and if that is the case the 1,000 lb tongue weight Equal-i-zer part # EQ37100ET that you referenced would be best option.
I am assuming yours does have a rear garage based on total weight to tongue weight that you listed when not loaded as it's common for toy haulers to have more tongue weight when not loaded so that when loaded it balances out a bit. What dirt bikes do you have?
