Do I Need A 5,000 lb Or 7,500 lb Air Bag Kit For A 7,200 lb Bumper Pull Horse Trailer?

Question:
I have dry weight horse trailer of 5,200lbs bumper pull. Two horses at 1,000 each put me around 7200lbs. What size bag should I get 5,000 or 7,500 for pulling this trailer.

Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out. A 5,000 lb air bag kit will be more than enough for this setup. Keep in mind the air bags weight rating pertains to the tongue weight or payload weight, not the total weight of the trailer. So with that setup, you will be well under capacity for a 5,000 lb kit.
The 7,500 kits are something I really only recommend for trucks with a constant heavy load in the bed like a truck bed camper.
What truck do you have?

Oh yeah, 5k bags will be plenty with your trailer. I put the 7k bags on my dually and they are overkill with my 14k equipment trailer. I only ever run 10lbs in them.

The 5k will hold up, no problems. Ive bought 3 of the 7500xl for 3 of my trucks just for my personal opnion because im constantly towing heavy. My parents have the 5k on their 150 and never had a problem even towing a 11k lb rv
