Hello Tom,
Thanks for writing in.
The etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-35 are sold as a pair, so each kit includes one left-hand and one right-hand brake assembly. Since it sounds like you have a tandem axle trailer with brakes on all four wheels, you'll need (2) of the # AKEBRK-35 to replace all of them.
Installation is pretty straightforward. The old assemblies unbolt from the brake mounting flange on the axle, and the new assemblies bolt right back into place. Then it's just a matter of reconnecting the brake wires and adjusting the brakes before putting the drums back on.
One thing I always like to point out is that the larger brake shoe goes toward the back of the trailer. I attached an image where you ca see the shoe on the left is longer than the shoe on the right, so that longer shoe should be facing the rear of the trailer when everything is installed.
While you have it apart, it's not a bad idea to take a quick look at the drums, bearings, races, and seals to make sure everything is still in good shape before buttoning it back up. I recommend grabbing (2) sets of the Grease Seal - Double Lip - ID 1.719" / OD 2.565" - for 3,500-lb Axles - Qty 2 # RG06-050. I have yet to get a grease seal out without damaging it, so it's always nice to have replacements on hand. If you don't have any grease for repacking the bearings, the LubriMatic Prime Guard High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease - Red - 16-oz Can # L11380 will do the trick.
If you inspect the bearings and notice any rough spots, pitting, discoloration, or signs of excessive heat, the Hub Bearing Kit for Lippert, Dexter, and AL-KO Axles - 3,500 lb with #84 Spindle # BK2-100 is a the right bearing kit for you. It comes with the inner and outer bearings, races, grease seal, cotter pin, and tang washer needed to service one hub, so you'd need one kit per wheel that needs attention.
What kind of trailer are you working on? A 7 x 16 could be anything from an enclosed cargo trailer to a toy hauler, and I'm always curious what people are fixing up.
