Looking For Trailer Brakes And Hubs For Dexter RT 3,500 lb Axle

Updated 07/29/2025 | Published 07/23/2025

Question:

Hello. I have a dexter RT35 3500lb axle. I’m looking to get some Trailer brakes for it. I noticed I have a backing plate, but as I’m looking at your trailer brakes, it doesn’t look like it has any bolts to mount up to the backing plate. what would be good budget, friendly set of brakes that also comes with a drum that comes with all the hardware, including the bolts to mount it to the backing plate? Thank you, God bless and have a great day.

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out. So all of the 3,500 lb brake assemblies we offer use a standard 4-bolt mounting flange. The center on center horizontal measurement of the mounting bolts are 2-7/8 inches and diagonal center on center of 4 inches. I have included a picture for your reference.

As long as this is what you have, our brakes and hubs will work for you. You can use the following:

- etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # AKEBRK-35-SA

- Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles - 10" - 5 on 4-1/2 - Pre-Greased # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K

The brakes are sold as a pair, and the hubs are sold individually. The brakes come with bolts for mounting to the brake flange. You can re-use the nuts from the old brakes. The drums come pre-greased with lug nuts and grease caps. The hubs are 5 on 4-1/2" so please confirm this matches your wheels.

What kind of trailer is this for? Just curious.

@SteveM Cool! I believe those do use a standard 3.5K axle setup. Just confirm that backing plate bolt pattern and hub bolt pattern and you can be sure the parts I recommended will work for you.

I looked at the backing plate, with the wheel assembly on. I looked at it under the trailer and see four holes. I have not actually measured it yet. My axle is a dexter RT35

@SteveM It SHOULD be the standard 4- bolt brake flange in that case. Unless the axle is old like 20+ years old. if you can see four holes you should be good
