Question:
We have a 29ft. Class C Motorhome. We want to flat towour 2011 CRV All Wheel Drive using one of your systems. Do we need the braking system to do that? Our mechanic said it is optional. Please advise.

Hey Barbara! A supplemental braking system is something we definitely recommend. Many states require one based on the weight of the vehicle, and even when it isn't legally required, it helps reduce wear on your motorhome's brakes. It also improves safety by providing better stopping performance in an emergency.
Assuming your Class C has hydraulic brakes, I recommend the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking System # DM86VR. The Demco systems have been around for quite a while and are incredibly reliable. This is a permanent installation so you don't have to set it up each time. If you would rather have a portable brake system check out the Curt RVibrake 4 Portable Flat Tow Brake System # RVI44FR.
Do you have the rest of the parts picked out already for your setup?

I now tow a 2026 Ford Maverick Hybrid behind our 2023 Thor Compass 24KB (a class B+ RV). I installed the Demco Duo and love it. It brakes when the RV brakes, and if it senses sudden deceleration, it brakes harder (I know because I can feel it). We're almost 6000 miles into our current two-month camping trip and it has performed flawlessly Highly recommend it. I installed it myself with help from the etrailer how-to videos.

I wouldn’t consider a braking system for a toad (full timer rv talk for towed vehicle) optional if you plan on actually using it. Consider the downhill while crossing the Rocky Mountains; do you want to “test” your rv Brakes while doing the downhill? Not me. This braking system that I installed improves my rv braking so It is now better while towing my F150 Crew Cab than without towing. It not only solves a concern of overloading the rv while towing it actually improves the rv overall. While I’m towing my 37 foot class A rv stops way better than while I’m not towing.

Hi Barbara, I would not consider a supplemental brake system optional. I installed Demco stay in play on my 2025 Maverick which I tow behind a 28 foot class A. If you want more info you can email me. Cheers Pete
