Is the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap Required for Curt 1 1/4" Receivers?

Updated 06/16/2026 | Published 06/12/2026

Question:

Thinking of purchasing Curt hitch receiver C11064 for my 2011 Honda Fit. I am wondering if the stabilizer strap is still required or if that has changed? I plan to use the 1Up Quick Rack 1.25 with no more than two bikes.

Great question Jordan, happy to help!

Yes, Curt still requires the stabilizer strap when using a bike rack in the Curt Hitch # C11064 1-1/4" receiver. Curt's instructions state, the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 is required for all 1-1/4" hitch-mounted bike racks and failure to use it voids the hitch warranty.

Is keeping the hatch completely free of attachments important to you or a stabilizing strap be okay?

I use the stabilizer strap, since it stated it was required. It is easy to use and I do think it does stabilize the rack.

@ElizabethA Great! The strap mitigates movement between the rack and hitch, definitely better with than without. Thanks for stopping by and we appreciate you choosing etrailer!

with two bikes on the rack it shakes & bounces around a lot. The stabilizer strap prevents all that bouncing and keeps the bikes much more stable. I think you'll want to use it.

Required or not, you’ll want to use it. It adds an additional layer of stability when hauling bikes (or anything tall).
