Looking For High-Low Adapter For E-Bike Rack With 8"-12" Of Drop

Question:

I have a Thule bike rack purchased from etrailer that I use with my 2026 Toyota Sequoia. The bike rack sits up high behind the vehicle, making it difficult to raise the ebikes up onto the rack. Could you recommend a high-low hitch adapter to allow us to lower the bike rack -ideally 8-12 inches? Does not need to carry a lot of weight - just the bike rack and 2 ebikes. Thank you- Dave Saylor

Hey Dave, welcome back. We do have high-low adapters with that amount of drop. Take a look at the following:

- Roadmaster High-Low Adapter - 2" Hitches - 10-1/4" Rise/Drop - 10K GTW, 400 lbs TW # RM-048-10

The main thing to keep in mind when using an adapter like this is your total tongue weight. Using a high-low adapter or hitch extension effectively reduces your hitches carrying capacity by half. So, for example, if the hitch on your Sequoia is rated for say 600 lbs of tongue weight, with the adapter in the mix you'd be limited to carrying only 300 lbs. That includes the weight of the adapter (24 lbs), the bike rack and both e-bikes. I couldn't find a specific tongue weight capacity published for the 2026 Sequoia, so I'd recommend checking your manual or door sticker to confirm that. As long as you don't exceed 1/2 of that tongue weight figure, you'll be good to go.

What kind of bikes do you have? Will the 10-1/4" drop be enough?

Hi Jesse - Thank you for your response. I see that there are some other options, including a Blue Ox adapter of about the same dimensions, for significantly less $$. Just trying to figureout if it is worth spending the additional $$ for the Roadmaster unit? My hitch is rated @ 900 lbs max tongue weight. We have two reasonably heavy ebikes plus the weight of the rack, so I would put the total weight at about 200 lbs. Thank you, Dave

@DaveS Sorry for the delayed response I was at the lake for a few days. Yes, the Blue Ox adapter part # BX88132 (10" drop) can work for this too if you are looking to save some $$$. They are virtually the same product I just went with the Roadmaster since its in stock and available to ship. If you don't mind waiting an additional 2-3 weeks to get it, the Blue Ox will work just fine.
