Recommended Brake Controller and 7 Way Wiring Harness for a 2016 Ford F-150

Updated 05/29/2026 | Published 05/25/2026

Question:

I need to purchase a electric brake controller for a 2016 Ford F150 which does not have a tow package but has wiring under dash to plug in the RED44UR controller and has wiring at the trailer plug which will accept your kit C56413 to convert this to a 7 pin connector. Can you please confirm this is a inertia controlled controller which will regulate the trailer braking force without driver assistance beyond initial calibration? Are both parts in stock? Is there anything else we need? Thank you Dennis cell 978-430-3464

Great questions Dennis, happy to help!

Yes, the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED44UR is a proportional, inertia brake controller. Once installed and calibrated, it uses an internal accelerometer to automatically apply the trailer brakes in proportion to the vehicle stopping. Once the Tow-Pro is installed an calibrated, you just fine tune by selecting the best braking level for you.

If the factory brake controller connector for your F150 is under the dash, the Tow-Pro Liberty can be installed using the included custom fit vehicle harness. Also, if the wiring is already at the rear of the truck, the Curt # C56413 7 Way upgrade kit is what you'll need to add a 7-way trailer connector.

What do you plan on towing once you get setup?
