Looking For Replacement For Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles HM56009

Updated 06/01/2026 | Published 05/23/2026

Question:

I have a 2018 Ford F150 Lariat that we flat tow. It is equipped with a Hopkins DINGY diode plug-and-play rear lighting harness. It recently failed and had to be unplugged from the tail lights. I cannot find a replacement on your website. I also cannot confirm the Hopkins part number which I think is HM56009. Need Help.

Hey Rick, thanks for reaching out. We used to carry that Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56009 but we don't carry it anymore. Hopkins parent company went belly-up and we couldn't get product from them anymore. Those were also notorious for failing prematurely so if you need to replace your tail light wiring I recommend switching over to something more reliable like the following:

- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267

This uses diodes that wire into the tail lights on your F-150 and runs to a 6-pin plug mounted on the front. The diodes will be much more reliable than that Hopkins harness.

Rick - I purchased the harness being recommended for my 2021 Jeep Wrangler. It was straight forward to install and has work like a champ. Have towed about 20,000 miles behind my motorhome. Love it. And the just came with all I needed. Good luck.

The following wiring harness that I bought and installed from Etrailer works great. It was easy to install and worked flawlessly from day one. I tow my 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trail Hawk all over the country. An additional power supply is not needed. FYI-I use a seperate mechanical brake system connected to the Jeep foot brake, with a break away switch. The brake senses the braking of my motor home and applies the brake. Last fall we traveled with the motor home towing the Jeep all over the Rocky Mtn highways and roads with mountain climbs and decents. No problems. https://www.etrailer.com/Flat-Tow-Wiring-Harness/Jeep/Cherokee/2020/RM-15267.html?VehicleID=202043860

I purchased the roadmaster kit about 2 years ago. I had it installed by my shop and it has worked flawlessly (Lights, brakes, battery) for 2 years to dinghy tow a 2018 Honda Accord behind my 2003 National RV Dolphin.

I use this harness to pull a 2015 GMC 2500 Denali. Harness was well constructed and easy to use. I am sure the product will work just fine for a Ford.

@DL Nice! Glad to hear the diode kit is working out. They can be used on pretty much any vehicle including a ton of Ford models, so you'll be good to go there.
