Extension For Thule OutPace For Spare Tire Clearance On 2022 Ford Bronco

Updated 05/27/2026 | Published 05/22/2026

Question:

I am going to purchase the Thule Outpace 2-bike hitch rack and currently drive a 2022 Ford Bronco with the Sasquatch package so it comes with the big tires. I am wondering if you have any advice on how long of a hitch extension I should purchase? I did measure from the middle of the eye on my factory installed hitch to the end of my spare tire and it is ~14 inches. Thank you!

Hey Ben! The distance from the center of the hitch pin to the closest part of the Thule OutPace # TH39SA is 7" folded down, and 4-1/4" when folded up for storage. You can use the Gen-Y Hitch Receiver Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches # GY89SR to clear your spare.

The Gen-Y is 14" long so it will push it out far enough to clear with bikes or when folded up. Adapters like this one will reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50%. However, at the max 55 lbs per bike, plus the 29 lbs for the bike rack, you still won't exceed the factory hitch capacity so that won't be an issue. There will be some extra movement with an adapter so I would also add in an anti-rattle # e38FV to keep that at a minimum.

What kind of bikes do you have?
