So far it’s been very reliable and I like being able to monitor the health of the shore power from my phone. It provides peace of mind that it will prevent both over and under voltage situations

by:

This came in a timely manor and in good shape. I haven't used it at a campsite yet, I hope to next month. LORD willing and the creek don't rise.

I absolutely love the new technology of the watchdog, and I appreciate etrailer for getting it to me quickly

by:

I have not used the BEAST Yet! I can tell you that ETrailer was prompt delivering the Surge Protector, going to great lengths to package my order with care and precision!

by:

Awesome product gives me peace of mind in that my RV electric source is monitored so that my RV electricity is stable. Watchdog rocks!

Awesome, Kevin! I'm glad to hear it's working well for you!

by:

It is a good product with a couple of flaws. First, the brightly lit dog image seems like an invitation for someone to walk off with it. A small pilot liamp would have been a better choice. Also, the decision to put the output plug under a plastic door sideways on the bottom makes it more difficult to remove the plug.

by:

Just received my surge protector. I got it very quick so thank you

by:

This is a very nice surge protector. I can pull it up on my phone and it tells me how much power is at the pole and how much my camper is using. I really like it.

by:

I think this is an excellent product. The only downside it is a bit heavy, I use a rubber cord to help support the weight, so it is not hanging on the outlet. We had to upgrade our electrical protection since we traded for a 50 amp service camper. Unfortunately, the campsite we reserved did not have 50 amps available. The app on my phone allowed me to monitor the electrical use so we have not had issues with tripping the breaker. One of the highlights of this unit is the phone app. It shows in real time what the electrical use is.

by:

I recently purchased this when we traded in our 30A RV for a 50A RV. I had the 30A version previously. I am thrilled with how it functions. So far I have only had it plugged in while the RV is in storage in my shop but I am please with the mobile app for monitoring. I've been able to use it to see what everything actually pulls when running and which leg things are on.

by:

great product, highly recommend, works as advertised. etrailer has been great keeping me abreast of what is happening with my order.

by:

Etrailer.com has customer service first! Lowest price and best service I've experienced. This unit is essential to protect your rig and yes, it's pricey, but compare it to the cost of burning up your AC due to low power at your pedestal. Worth every penny

The Watch Dog saved me a disaster - plugged in to the 50A service and found 64V on one leg! Was able to use the 30A with a dogleg for the stay with no issues. Without the low voltage lockout I would have powered my rig and probably destroyed everything electronic that was on that leg

@Barry Thanks for sharing that, Barry. That’s exactly the kind of situation the Watchdog is designed to catch, and 64V on a leg could have done some real damage. Glad the low-voltage lockout kept your rig safe and that you were able to finish your stay without issues. Always good to hear when the gear does its job.

by:

This surge protector is everything it says it is and more. I like how it talks to your smart phone and keeps you updated on all things power in your camper. Most of the issues I had was rv park related not the camper. Most of these older rv parks have power issues or are under powered with electricity . This surge protector saved me alot of money on protecting all my electronics and new rv. Well worth the money. Make sure you purchase a cable lock to lock it up or it will go missing. E-trailer has you covered and can take care of all your needs. Thank you!

by:

Great product, used one similar in the past for a 30A travel trailer, but in moving up to a fifth wheel with 50A this was the product for us! Worked perfectly all last year and expect the same this season. Great timely delivery from e-trailer...actually also got the fifth wheel hitch from them also!

by:

Ordered Watchdog surge protector (works great and easy set up) and was delivered exactly when they said it would be, Great Service, thanks Ric D.

by:

Setup was a breeze and information was available immediately via Bluetooth and the WiFi connection was easy too.

by:

Love this device. I had the Bluetooth only model prior to this one and the WiFi connectivity makes a big difference. I’m able to check power consumption from anywhere. But the best improvement is the way the RV power cord connects. It’s now on the side and has a cover. This is a great improvement. It makes it less likely that you connection point will be laying on the ground and it is protected from rain. Excellent product and easily recommend it.

by:

Bluetooth and WiFi features are sketchy and seem to work when they want to. Choosing the correct app is a guessing game. Scanning the QR code isn’t much help as it comes back constantly with BLE ID invalid. This should be so much easier than it actually is.

Thanks for reaching out Dwight, The "BLE ID invalid" message can sometimes occur if the wrong Watchdog app is being used, required bluetooth, location permissions haven't been enabled, or the QR code isn't being recognized properly. Which Watchdog app did you install?

by:

Owned a 30 amp watchdog epo previously and loved it. Upgraded to diesel pusher, so I needed to get a 50 amp. I had read that they had redesigned some features. This new design is awesome. Very happy with this product from ease of use to satisfaction knowing that my rig is protected.

by:

Great product, and E-trailer is the go to place for your RV gear!
So far the watch dog is working as expected with a peace of mind that it’s monitoring our power.

by:

Did its job the first day. Power to camper went out the first night we were at camp. I looked out the window and could see the dog was red. I’m not sure what the issue was but before I could get my shoes on power was back on.

by:

E-trailer made it an easy purchase after a few questions. We had the old style power watch dog since we started fulltime back in 2021. It saved our rig from a meltdown and we are grateful. It was only fitting to put our trust in a product that proved it's value! I LOVE that they have the replaceable module now, that's how you know a company is making products for their customer's best interest! That's a total upgrade in itself.

by:

Just received the 50amp watchdog surge protector today and hookup was simple .Connection to wifi was also very easy. It's very useful in the app to see the real amp usage the rv is pulling inside.

I'm happy to hear you're loving your new surge protector! I won't camp without one! And being able to see the energy draw from my phone gives me peace of mind.

by:

So far, I haven’t experienced any issues. The only improvement I’d suggest is giving users the option to turn the front light off completely. While the brightness can be dimmed, the illuminated watchdog icon remains visible and draws unnecessary attention. For a product that may be used or stored in public or visible areas, having the ability to disable the light entirely would provide greater discretion and could help reduce unwanted attention.

by:

Best peace of mind out there! We use our Motorhome on a seasonal site most of the year so it stays plugged in all the time. Not only does this device protect us, it lets us know when the power goes out and we aren’t there. Finally, our main reason for buying was the protection but we had been having problems with the post power at the seasonal. The CG kept telling us we had low voltage because of our rig. With the logging capability on the Watchdog, we were able to show them how the power would drop from 120 to below 90. Ultimately, they replaced the feeder to the site and all has been good since. We couldn’t have got that done without Watchdog!!!

I love this review Roger! I just ran a training here on RV electrical and your review says everything I was trying to get across about the Watchdog. You never know who was working on the power pedestal at any campsite, ground or neutral could be open, wires crossed, and this is just what you called it, "Peace of Mind." This product will take the beating if needed, instead of your RV. I am so happy you found this product and it could give you that! Thanks for taking the time to write this review. - Safe Travels =)

  • What Is The Purpose Of A Soft Start Start Capacitor And Should There Be One On Each AC
Hi Jeff, A start capacitor/soft start is essentially just a box that holds a charge to help with the large demand when the AC unit kicks on. This will help your units run easier for a longer lifespan so it's a good idea to install them on each unit. If your units aren't drawing as much power at start up you'll put less demand on the system as a whole, minimizing the chance that you'll experience a voltage drop.
