Hi Jeff, A start capacitor/soft start is essentially just a box that holds a charge to help with the large demand when the AC unit kicks on. This will help your units run easier for a longer lifespan so it's a good idea to install them on each unit. If you did end up at a camp ground with 50 amp service you would want to have it. Where To Install A Hardwired Watchdog Surge Protector In A System With A Transfer Switch
Hey Robert, The Power Watchdog Surge Protector # HU82VR can be installed on the shore power lines before the transfer switch. Since it's before the transfer switch it would only be tied to the shore power and wouldn't be an issue with the inverters. The inverters would be separate from shore power due to the transfer switch so the Watchdog wouldn't be connected to the inverters.
