What Ball Mount Will I Need For A 1-1/4" Receiver On A 2020 GMC Terrain SLT?

Question:
2020 GMC Terrain SLT Ball joint Please help. The car has a receiver which has a 1 5/16 inside width. I’ve measured the receiver more than twice but I don’t see a ball joint which is 1 5/16 inches on your website. 1. Does your company carry a ball joint that would fit that receiver.? 2. If “yes”, please, send me the link. 3. How do I know if I need a rise ball joint and how much of a rise do I need?

Hey Joe, thanks for reaching out. The trailer hitch on your 2020 GMC Terrain SLT is a standard 1-1/4" receiver. There is no such thing as a 1-5/16" receiver, so it is undoubtedly a 1-1/4" with maybe a bit more factory tolerance than usual.
That being said, we do have a ball mount that will work for you. You will most likely need a rise ball mount, but the exact amount of rise really depends on your trailer. You want the trailer to ride level, so you need enough rise to achieve that. The hitch on your Terrain should ride about 12" off the ground, and most trailers have a coupler height of around 16", but each trailer is different.
What you'll want to do is set the trailer on level ground and lower the jack until the tongue is level. Measure the distance from the center of the coupler to the ground, subtract 12" from that and that will tell you exactly how much rise you'll need.
My guess is you'll need something like the etrailer Ball Mount # e47DR. This has 3-7/8" of rise and comes with a pre-torqued 2" ball. Please just check and make sure the 3-7/8" rise and 2" ball will work for your trailer and you'll be good to go.
What kind of trailer will you be hauling?
