Question:
Hello eTrailer team! I have a 2026 4Runner SR5 w/factory tow package. I am looking for the easiest install and required parts to get a Tow-Pro for hauling a 2020 No Boundaries 19.6 for offroad/back country camping and safe highway driving both supported in the controller. The RED56CR package comes with the Tow-Pro Elite Controller and the TPH-021 Redarc Wiring Harness - does this harness help plug and play with the 2026 4Runner? Or is it unnecessary? If it is unnecessary then would the RED44FR work just minus the harness? It seems the Elite is the way to go for the Off-road mode. Agreed? Recommendation welcome! Thank you kindly!

Hi Joel!
The easiest way to install a brake controller on your 2026 Toyota 4Runner would be to use the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller w/Custom Harness part # RED56CR. It is the same Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller as the RED44FR but has the custom plug in harness that will plug straight into your 4Runner's brake controller harness and save you from splicing!
The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite is ideal for towing on-road and off-road due to its ability to easily switch between proportional (towing on highways) and time-delayed (towing off-road) braking. Time-delayed brake controllers are great for going off-road because you can pick how much braking power and delay for when the brakes are applied that you're wanting. Which helps when going at slow speeds over uneven terrain. I've included a link to the RED56CR being installed on a 2024 Toyota 4Runner for reference when you go to install it.
Where are you planning to go back country camping at?
