What Replacement Options do I Have for Older Short EZ Loader Boat Trailer Hubs?

I have a 1996 EZ loader boat trailer I am looking to get new hubs for. Both inner and outer bearings from old hub are marked L44649, hub stamped BT150A, 1-1/16” spindle and the overall length of the hub is 3.5” shorter than most other hubs I see at this size. I am wondering which hub assembly you offer will fit these specs? Thank you.

Hello Darin,

Based on the information you provided, it sounds like your trailer is using one of the older shorter-style hubs that were commonly found on some EZ Loader boat trailers. Unfortunately, we no longer carry that shorter hub design, and the currently available hubs with the same bearing combination are longer than your original BT150A hub.

Because of that, the best solution at this point will be to replace the spindles with the BTR E-Z Lube Spindle for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # TRU44FR. This spindle is designed for standard modern 2,000 lb hub assemblies and will allow you to use readily available replacement hubs moving forward, including the Easy Grease style hubs like # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K.

I know that is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but replacing the spindles will make future maintenance and replacement parts much easier to source down the road instead of trying to track down the older discontinued hub style

How long have you had the boat, and what body of water are you mainly get out on? I do quite a bit of bass fishing here in Missouri at the Lake of the Ozarks and Mark Twain Lake, still chasing that double digit!

Do you sell a whole axle with these updated spindles? At this point I’m not looking to cut off the old spindles and weld on new ones…it’s a 30 year old trailer only needing a hub so seems like overkill but at this point I just want to use it.

@Darin Yes, we can definitely find you a new axle, you have leaf spring set-up and not a torsion axle correct? I am going to need the hub face to hub face measurement, as well as the spring center. I attached a help article that shows exactly how to measure. Let me know what you come up with, so I can find you an axle.

@Darin, this is the way to go. I had old boat trailer and had same issue. I did have to get axle with weldable perches since my leaf centers were also not standardized distance. But so glad I got new axles and hubs that's all made with standard parts (things are much more standardized nowadays). Much easier to find parts for now if I need. Even local farm store had hubs sitting on shelf that fit my new axles if I ever needed them in a pinch.

@Hoss Thanks for the response Hoss. When I first started here we had the parts for them, but unfortunately they have been phased out. It is nice that they have more of a standard these days.

I ended up just replacing the bearings, races and seals on the hubs as there was nothing wrong with them. This is a much more cost effective option than replacing spindles that are not damaged or an axle that isn’t damaged. Unfortunately at the cost of those parts/labour I would’ve been buying a new trailer instead.

@Darin That is a great option as well Darin, glad to hear your hubs were in good enough shape to just get the new bearings, races, and seals.

The washer #5-101 is the 1 inch diameter standard size and there is not anything that is 1-1/16 inches as you stated. This washer will work well along with the D Washer for EZ Lube Spindles #5-23 for your spindle and bearings.
