Recommended Hitch for a 2026 Subaru Crosstrek and Hitch Weight

What does the Curt C22MJ weigh? I can use the 25 pound TrailerMate as my CrossTrek matches the 1500 pound tow capacity and 150 pound tongue weight. But I also dont mind having a heavier duty hitch since I tend to overbuild everything. That said, if the C22MJ is 40 pounds, I dont want to add that extra weight behind the rear wheels. But if its 30 pounds, I might. Thank you.

Hey Justin, congrats on the new car! The Curt Hitch item # C22MJ weighs right at 31 lbs without the installation hardware. This class III hitch with a 2" receiver is custom fit for the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek. It fits the hybrid models as well but does not fit the Wilderness edition.
If you have a 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness you'll need the Curt Hitch item # C54GJ instead. It weighs 30 lbs.
The Trailer Mate Trailer Hitch item # TMT94FR you referenced weighs only 25 lbs. It fits the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek but not the hybrid models.
Whether you're towing or just using the hitch for accessories like a bike rack or cargo carrier, I recommend the Curt Hitch item # C22MJ over the Trailer Mate item # TMT94FR assuming you don't have the Wilderness model. Trailer Mate uses less steel in the construction of their hitches which is why it has the lower weight and capacity. They don't have the lip at the end of the receiver either which excludes you from being able to use quite a few of the anti-rattle devices on the market.
