How Does TowSmart Hitch Compare To Curt Hitch For Subaru Crosstrek With Cargo Carrier?

Published 11/20/2025

Question:

How does this compare to the Curt hitch for the Crosstrek? I’m mainly planning to use it for a cargo carrier on long trips.

Good question, Aaron. Both the Curt and TowSmart hitches for the Crosstrek are Class III, 2-inch receivers, but the TowSmart # TS68ZR stands out with a 675-lb tongue weight rating and a matte black finish that hides scuffs and road grime
better. It’s also made in the USA, and the fit is nice and clean under the bumper. The Curt # C22MJ is still very good quality and is a top seller, and is rated a bit lower at 525-lb tongue weight. Either option will work fine though since your vehicle won't be rated for that high of a tongue weight anyways.

Since you’re using a cargo carrier, you won’t need any towing accessories - but if you ever decide to pull a small trailer, you could add the # 119147KIT wiring harness and # 989891 ball mount kit later to round out your setup.

What kind of carrier are you running?
