2025 Subaru Crosstrek Limited Hitch Recommendation and Tongue Weight Rating

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/20/2025

Question:

Hi- Can you let me know if the extra tongue weight of 675lbs makes a difference over the 525 lbs tw rating on the etrailer hitch e98912? I will be mounting the hitch on a 2025 Crosstrek Limited and will be using the hitch primarily for bikes. Combined weight of bikes and rack will be under 200 lbs. Im looking for a rock solid hitch that will not wobble and will last for a long time. Thanks for your help!

Hey Brent! Thanks for reaching out!

I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Limited and on page 412 it specifies that the max allowable tongue weight is 400 lbs (when towing a trailer with brakes).

Subaru doesn't list out a tongue weight rating for a bike rack, but it's safe to say the extra tongue weight for the TowSmart # TS68ZR won't give it an edge over the etrailer # e98912.

I see you ended up going with the Draw-Tite # 76209 which is a solid hitch and will get the job done. I would still recommend the etrailer over the Draw-Tite simply because the etrailer hides the crosstube behind the bumper fascia (which looks nicer and promotes better ground clearance), but it ultimately is up to you and what you're wanting out of a hitch!

What bike rack and bikes do you have?

Hey Brent, How's the Draw-Tite hitch working out for you with your bike rack and bikes? I'm curious to know if it met your expectations, as it could help others in a similar situation. Let me know!
