Will MORryde GooseTech Rubber Shear Spring Have Issues With Improved Braking From Disc Brakes

Updated 05/08/2026 | Published 05/06/2026

Question:

I tow a 40’ toyhauler with a 2017 RAM 3500 Dually. I also installed disc brakes on the trailer. My question is, would there be any issues with the rubber spring based on the improved trailer braking? Do you know if any testing has been done with disc brake trailers? I ask this because, within about a 1000 miles of the new brakes. My Rotoflex pin box spit the rubber damper out.

Hey Mike! It sounds to me like that Rotoflex was worn out and you would have had that failure one way or another. If you're wanting to install a MORryde GooseTech like # MR27MV the disc brakes wont' be an issue. MORryde does thorough testing of their products, which including trailers with improved stopping power from disc brake setups.

This particular model is designed to fit a Lippert 1116 bolt pattern and works with a GVWR over 18,000 lbs. If that matches your toy hauler this is the right replacement. If you have a different bolt pattern you can choose from one of the following:

-MORryde GooseTech 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for 18K+ Trailers w/ Lippert Rhino # MR24MV

-MORryde GooseTech 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box for 18K+ Trailers w/ Lippert 1621 # MR47MV

You will also need safety chains # MR23MV to complete your setup. If you want to keep it secure a lock # IR66FR is also available.

What kind of toy hauler do you have? If you have a different GVWR or bolt pattern let me know in the comments and I'll help you find the right fit. If you aren't sure on the bolt pattern, you can send me a picture of the pin box sticker and I can use that to identify it for you.
